This is a preview section for Suikoden 4. As new information is released, we'll put it here. This section will be active until the game is actually in production, at which point we'll revert to the format used for the first three Suikodens.
The next installment of Konami's hit RPG series, Genso Suikoden, has been confirmed. Suikoden IV will be for the Playstation II and is slated for a release sometime in 2004.

Eager fans will have their first glimpse of Suikoden IV at Tokyo Game Show which will be held November 26-28, 2003. Apparently there will be a mystery character revealed at the Tokyo Game Show - or rather a previously seen character that will leave people wondering "What is that character doing here?"

Until then, information is tricking in through other media - namely the multitude of gaming magazines.

Production
The production team of Suikoden IV is headed by the executive producer of Suikoden III, Mr. Tomonori Matsugawa (who replaced Murayama). Mr. Masashi Saruta is the Producer. Ms. Junko Kouno (the character designer for Suikoden I and Shadow of Memories/Destiny) will be doing duty as a producer and the character designer.

Setting

The setting of IV has been confirmed. It will take place in the "Island Nations" (the homeland of Amada from Suikoden II). The Island Nations are located to the south of Toran and the scenery has a tropical feel to it. The time period it will take place in has not been revealed at this time.

The game will once again be Polygon-based/3D - with characters more realistic than those seen in Suikoden III.

The Hero
The Hero/Tenkai Star does not have a name (You can input his name at the start of the game). He is an orphan working as a servant within a household. His weapons are two daggers/short swords. During the progress of his journeys, he comes across the "Rune of Punishment" (Bachi/Batsu no Monsyo).

What is known about the Rune thus far is that in exchange for its power, it slowly steals away the life of its bearer. After killing its bearer, it goes in a random search for a new bearer, earning it a dark reputation. Furthurmore, the rune torments its bearer the fragmentary memories of its previous bearers.

Characters
Several other characters have been announced:

Snow - Someone that is possibly the Hero's friend - or possibly the young master of the household he works for.

Glen - A middle-aged gentleman

The Pirate Pland - I think his name says it all

Eleanor - Yet another Silverberg (this time female)

Leknaat - Perfect attendance for all four games.
