Very much like Suikoden, each character has an attack range. There is a small difference in the Medium range, but the rest follows the same rules as Suikoden 1 and 2's ranges.
This game's formation system follows the Suikoden 1 & 2 system, where there are 2 rows characters, 3 in the front row and 3 in back. Enemies seem to also follow this rule (but this information is limited to the Beta).
S(hort): Can only attack if positioned in your front row, and can only target the enemy front row.
M(edium): Can be positioned anywhere in your party, BUT if positioned in the front row, your character can target either the enemy's front or back row. When positioned in your back row, the character can only attack the enemy front row.
L(ong): Can attack any enemy.

Re: [FAQ] Weapon range (S M L)
Is the S M L designation called out for each character in any UI menus? I've been able to infer some by what characters end up being able to do in battle, but I didn't notice it in any menu so it made planning the party formation take longer.

Yeah it's in the menu, like when forming your party or in the status screen.

I hope this will be fixed in a patch, but if two M characters try a unite from the back row, it won't work.

Unites have a range value. They can be S/M/L as well.Antimatzist wrote: ↑Sat Apr 20, 2024 8:24 am I hope this will be fixed in a patch, but if two M characters try a unite from the back row, it won't work.
But yeah, a unite between 2 M characters should probably be M, not S.

Re: [FAQ] Weapon range (S M L)
I don't believe so. So yeah, sorta moot point, but just pointing out it's a property on the unite data, so it might not be like that for *every* M unite. (And that it's a data bug, not a code bug, not that the distinction matters to the player. lol. Means it should theoretically be easier to fix, though.)Antimatzist wrote: ↑Sun Apr 21, 2024 2:17 amIs the unite range shown anywhere in game?Julian wrote: ↑Sat Apr 20, 2024 4:27 pmUnites have a range value.
