The former Order head of Grayridge, Macoute was placed into his position the previous year. However, ever since that incident, he hadn’t received a prediction from Cynas. So Macoute decides to claim there will be an upcoming frost, and raises taxes so the Order will have money on hand to prepare for it. However, Macoute embezzles this extra money, hiding it in the Grayridge mine.

He also makes the claim that all Grayridge boys will be soldiers for the Order, and all the girls will work in the Chapter hall. Most parents comply with these wishes, but Logan, the innkeeper, does not, even though his daughter, Erin, does come to work at the hall.

The Hero takes an immediate dislike to Macoute, calling him a “big bag of hot air” and both he and Jale call him out for supposedly knowing the future when he questions the Hero’s presence in his town. When the Hero and Erin, who is revealed to have been secretly investigating, discover Macoute’s hidden stash, he attempts to use Gilliam to kill them, but the Hero prevails.

Erin cleverly creates a system that will leave Macoute in a figurehead position, and allowing Grayridge a chance at self-governance. Macoute agrees to the plan, as Erin will not report him to the Order for re-education. However, when the Order’s troops come in to bring Citro Village under control, Macoute is removed from his position and re-taught the Order’s principals.

Macoute is tasked with bringing recruits to the Order. He attempts to get this done at Tehah, trying to utilize the Order’s prediction of avalanches. But, because of Dogha, who lives up in the mountains and senses them, his actions are fruitless. Similarly, attempting to sway the Roar meets with King Diluf’s anger and Macoute’s expulsion from Cragbark.

After a string of failures, Macoute agrees to try and help the Order in any way possible. Valfred uses the True Chronicle to give Macoute the Mark of Resonant Horror, which turns him into a great bloated beast. But the Hero defeats the beast and Macoute disappears in a white light. - Matt620
