Name Changes

Q. Is there a reason why Joker changed his name? A. Joker did refer to himself as "Wang" in Gaiden Vol.2, but soon after joining the 12th unit that Geddoe was in he changed it to the present Joker name. The rest of the unit other than Geddoe actually uses a disguise name as well. The names Ace, Queen, Jacques (Jack), and Joker are all based on playing cards. They do not prefer to reveal their true name because so many carry memories of various fateful events in their past and as Harmonian mercenaries who are sent on top secret missions, they do not want their identities to be known . These names are some what like a code name among the mercenaries. This change is not required and it is not a problem to go by your real name, but it's possible that Aila may be called "Heart" in the future.

Relationship between Geddoe and Queen

Q. Do Geddoe and Queen have a romantic relationship? A. No, they don't. Although their relationship have not progressed to a romantic one, they do have total respect and trust for each other. It seems like Queen mends the various deep wounds of Geddoe's heart with her delicate care. Who knows what will happen in the future...

Ace and Women

Q. Is Ace actually popular among women? Does he have a girlfriend? A. Since he is good with words he should be so-so... Since it was customary for him to depart from places as a mercenary and he has a women-loving personality, it seems like there is no one in particular. But has been in a lot of situations where he has been hurt before. For example, he flirted with Elaine from Duke's team and ended up being dumped after sending her a gift that was equal to the pay of one mission's worth.

Zorak's view of Hix

Q. Does Zorak approve of the relationship between Tengaar and Hix? A. He does approve. He believes Hix has big talents hidden and it is his wish for Hix to be successful as a warrior. Although Tengaar's, his only daughter, husband-to-be will directy succeed the title of mayor of Warrior's Village, Zorak truthly believes that Hix is competent.

Agelessness vs Growth

Q. Why does Luc look like he has aged even though he possesses the True Wind Rune? A. Great power and agelessness is granted to those who possess a true rune. Therefore, that just means that they donít age, but will continue to show growth. If you take a look at Ted, Sierra and Luc for an example, there is an individual difference regarding the degree of growth in how they look. We donít know the details, but it seems like the personís will or image of growth, types of runes and situation of how they first possessed the rune effect the changes. But those that have received a true rune in their primes like Joshua, Geddoe and Wyatt, it seems as though their growth stops at that exact age.

Mike Info

Q. What is behind the scent of darkness from Mike that only Geddoe sensed? A. There is no denying the fact that what Geddoe, who pulled through many experiences of bloodshed and has many connections with those that live in the underworld, felt was something certain. There are even reports that ďmen covered in all black with strange weapons were saluting MikeĒ. It seems certain from that instance that he is someone who has a connection with the dark side of society. The biggest hint of revealing his mystery is the fact that he and Watari are acquaintances. By analyzing Watariís statement you should be able to infer what kind of a person Mike is and what type of rank he holds.

Salome's Trust of Nash

Q. What was the history between Salome and Nash leading up to Salome trusting Nash to accompany Chris to the Grasslands?

A. Nash and Salome were both first class in the information gathering field and they knew some what about each other including names and tid bits of background info prior to the battles of Suikoden III. Salome found some suspicious elements regarding the reason why the Zexen Federation and the Grasslands were fighting. He received Nash's contact after the attack on Iksay Village, and the two of them discussed the events while exchanging their gathered info. They both concluded that in order to reach a solution to the current situation it is required to find the third party that is conspiring the two nations to battle each other and follow up on the rumor that the Flame Champion had appeared in the Grasslands. Afterwards, Nash was asked by Salome to accompany Chris to the Grasslands. It seems like Nash was also acquainted with Geddoe, but it is unknown whether they exchanged info during Suikoden III.

Mukumuku Info

Q. How did Mukumuku get to know Hero2, Nanami, and Jowy? How did they become childhood friends?

A. One day during Hero2's childhood years, Hero2 was practicing his straight punches that Genkaku taught him the previous day near the tree in the back yard of the house. Without getting noticed by Hero2, a flying squirrel-like being was copying exactly what Hero2 was doing and practiced straight punches together near the root of the tree. At that time, Nanami happened to see the flying squirrel making these strange movements as she exited the back entrance of the house. She quickly moved to the back of the tree, and caught the flying squirrel-like being by jumping on top of it. Nanami then decided to name him "Mukumuku" because of his very soft touch and introduced him to Jowy soon afterwards. The four of them became childhood best friends. Also, the one who named the other members of the flying squirrel team was the leader and also the one who was initially named Mukumuku.

Teo and Sonya's Romance

Louis and Chris' Relationship

Q. Did Chris and Louis know each other initially?

A. Originally Louis' father and Wyatt were close friends, and that lead to Chris meeting Louis ever since he was really young. But Louis was too young to recall any memory of Chris. Louis's father took care of Chris when Wyatt became missing, so he was someone that Chris really felt grateful towards to. For that reason, when it was decided for Louis to become an apprentice to the Knights, Chris asked that she be the one to take care of him. The reason why Chris makes sure Louis will become a full fledged Knight is affected by these events.

Salome and Jimba

Q. Did Salome know of Jimba's identity?

A. Salome did know Wyatt as Chris' father, but didn't know about his reason for being missing or his disappearance. Needless to say, he had no idea regarding Jimba's identity. But Salome had an info exchanging relationship with Geddoe from sometime before (Both weren't able to meet out in public of course). So it seems as though eventually he found out that Wyatt was indeed alive while he was exchanging info with Geddoe during this conflict. But he had no idea regarding Jimba's indentity until Jimba himself revealed to Chris.

Geddoe's Past

Q. Please tell me the details regarding the reason why Jimba referred to the Karaya Village as the "cursed land" when he was talking to Geddoe there.

A. Geddoe became the successor of the True Lightning Rune at a place very close to where the Karaya Clan lived in the Grasslands. His distaste for the memory of what happened at that time caused him to not want to go any where near there. Also, Geddoe did not go near the Karaya clan's place even when he battled side by side with the Flame Champion. This is the reason why Jimba was surprised by Geddoe visit and referred to the Karayan land as "cursed". Long years and Geddoe's proud sense of mission allowed Geddoe to overcome his painful memory and step into the Karaya Clan's land.

Neclord's Bride Info

From Q and A of Shinsho Vol. 5 Q. What is the role of the "Vampire's Bride"? It doesn't seem like it plainly just means "wife"... Also, did Rean from Suikogaiden Vol.1 have someone who was his "Vampire's Bride"?

A. The "Vampire's Bride" seems to genuinely be just an hobby of Neclord. It is not something that has merit or tradition among the other Vampires. Although Rean drank human blood and is guilty as much as Neclord, it seems as though he didn't particulary have brides or even an actual procedure for assigning numbers for his victims.

Short Info on Sara Blight

Q and A from Shinsho Vol. 5 regarding Sara Blight Q. What kind of woman was Sara?

A. Sara was originally from a noble family. Also, knowing that she gave birth without any kind of consideration for an abortion after the "incident", she seems to be a woman with a really strong sense of motherhood.

Q. Please tell me the background info regarding the marriage between Agares and Sara. Did Agares love Jillia and Luca?

A. Sara was from a noble origin, and there was a strong presence of their marriage being an arranged one. But, it seems as though he did feel a love for his wife. He adored Luca as much as his wife before the "incident", but he gradually distanced away from Luca once he found out Luca's hatred. When he found out that Sara was pregnant, he attempted to force her to have an abortion. But Sara strongly objected, and eventually allowed her to do what she wanted to do. But after birth, there were no instances of where he showed affection towards Jillia.

High East Rebellion Info

From Shinsho Vol.12

Q. What type of battle was the High East Rebellion that was mentioned in the story of Suikoden 3?

A. The High East Rebellion originated IS 472, 3 years prior to the beginning of the story in Suikoden 3. Holy Harmonia's troops, that were located in the remote region, aimed to regain Highland's territory and caused the beginning of the invansion. The country of Dunan, that had Highland under its control, resisted mainly with Teresa Wisemail as the President and fought bravely. In this battle the celebrated military strategist who already expressed his retirement, Shu, secretly cooperated. He possessed a plan causing internal disturbance within Holy Harmonia and contributed to the victory. Incidentally, Viktor and Flik also participated in this battle with those who were once fellow members. Also, Tuta and Mio met eachother for the first time during the High East Rebellion.

Plot and Setting Info

These are from various Shinshos (vol. 8-11) Q. When the holder of the true rune dies what happens? Does it fly off on its own somewhere?

A. The rune's presence has a great purpose in the Genso world. Therefore, it may fly off seeking the next successor, or it may seal itself.

Q. It's a stupid question...but there are no restrooms at the castle. They have a bathhouse. What are the characters doing? This is seriously a stupid question...

A. We can't confirm it in the game, but the restrooms are provided in various places like near the bathhouse and near the restaurant. Naturally, men and women are separate. The women even have meetings/conversations in the bathroom.

Q. In the beginning of Chris Chapter 3, Fred tells Rico that "there is no need to pay for staying at the Inn to someone like him". What happened?

A. Since Fred came to the Duck Village believing that there was some source of evil in the town, he temporarily caused a big commotion. Fred was then considered as a knight who fought evil, so the innkeeper provided a luxurious feast to welcome him. Afterwards, together with Rhett, Fred investigated all over town, but of course, there was no such source of evil. When the innkeeper found out that it was just a misunderstanding, he ordered Fred to pay the fee for his luxurious feast. This is what was making Fred angry.

Q. In Hugo Chapter 2, Sergeant Joe told Jimba "Good Luck". What did he mean by that. Also, did Lucia know who Jimba was?

A. At that time, the Lizard Clan was preparing for the attack on Iksay Village. You can see the attack scene in Chris Chapter 2, and you'll know that the Karaya Clan was involved in it as well. This means that Sergeant Joe knew that Jimba and the others were attacking Iksay Village ahead of time, and he wished them "Good Luck". Next, regarding Jimba's identity, Lucia was told of his identity when she welcomed him to Karaya. Jimba revealed his identity only to Lucia because she was the chief of the Karaya Clan.

Q. In Geddoe Chapter 1, what is the meaning to the signal left by Queen in the Karaya Village.

A. That was intended as a signal to meet up later for Ace and the Joker who was at a separate location at that time. Geddoe's 12th mercenary team had many signals among themselves.

Q. Who was the one that shot the arrow during Geddoe Chapter 1 when Karaya was attacked?

A. Geddoe was confronted by Borus at the Karaya Village. The person who shot the arrow to the ground was Jacques. He is a very reliable person even when he was roaming around by himself.

Side note next to picture of Jacques telling Ace and Joker that he was hunting for rabbits: When everyone meets up in the forest afterwards, he tells them that he was just hunting. But in actuality, he was secretly taking part in the action.

Viktor Q and A

This has been posted at the suikosource strict forum for a while, but I think that some people never actually knew of its existence. I will post others that were posted in the same Shinsho thread as well today. ^___^

From Genso Shinsho Vol.3

Translation of the Q and A sections regarding Viktor and Flik (Pages 13 and 41)

THINGS THAT I WANNA KNOW ABOUT VIKTOR Q and A

Q1: Where did Viktor learn his sword skills? Was he self-taught? Or did he have a master?

A1: He didn't have a master and mostly was self-taught. Before he headed towards the Imperial Empire, he temporarily participated in mercenary activities. He also learned some battle moves there. Q2: It seems that Viktor first met Annabelle when he came to Muse to make some money. Please tell me the situation surrounding their meeting.

A2: There is nothing particularly established at this point. But for a daughter of the mayor of Muse who has been treated with too much care all her life, Viktor, who didn't treat her in that way, must have been someone that she was taken off guard by.

Q3: Viktor seems like someone that excels in picking out talented people. Were there other instances where he brought along people like the heroes of Suikoden 1 and 2?

A3: We are not positively sure that he actually does have that talent, since it's self-proclaimed. BUT putting in mind that both of the heroes of Suikoden certainly wouldn't have been at such a large battleground without Viktor's interference, it's not just plain luck.

Q4: After the Dunan Unification War, what happened to the Star Dragon Sword? Was it returned to the Wind Cave?

A4: At this time the Star Dragon Sword is on a trip together with Viktor, but we don't know what will happen to it in the future.

"The Truth About That Tragic Night"

At that time, Viktor's family members were his mother (Helen), little brother (Will), and grandmother (Martha). His father was the 4th Commander of North Window, but died in a battle against the Imperial Army. When Neclord attacked the town of North Window, Viktor was away from town buying medicine for his mother. When he returned back, he saw the devastating act of his family members turned into zombies and feasting on each other. At that time Viktor fought with Neclord and suffered from deadly injuries, but he was able to sustain from dying because of the "sacrificial jizou" that he was holding for a friend named Daisy. Daisy was a childhood friend who Viktor's parents took care of after her parents died when she was young and was regarded as a family member. Daisy mistakenly believed that Viktor died, and decided to take her own life before Neclord would get his hands on her.

Caesar and Albert Silverberg

From Shinsho Vol.12

Q. How did Caesar and Albert study to be a military strategist? Did they both have someone like a mentor?

A. There is no mentor in particular for the both them, but they have received education to become a strategist as a member of the Silverberg family. Albert was a hard worker and he was bright enough to be the top of his class once he began his studies abroad at Harmonia. Caesar had no interest in military strategies and was not dedicated to his studies. But at times, he surprised his surroundings by showing his wittiness. His provided hints for people who were troubled by bad business, and lead their business to flourish. During their youth they both met Apple, who was on a journey to write Mathiu's biography. At that time, Caesar sympathized to the ideals of Mathiu and Shu after hearing stories about them. As time passed on, Albert started to believe that his grandfather (Leon)'s teachings were correct. He felt a need for an unified nation and went on a journey to attain status.

Connection between Edge and Viktor

From Shinsho Vol. 12

Q. Please tell me the details of the connection between Edge, Viktor, and the Star Dragon Sword!

A. After the Dunan Unification War, Viktor and Flik went on a wandering, aimless journey. Although they were caught in troubles at various places, for some time, they were on a carefree journey. During this time, the both of them heard a rumor about vampire sightings and headed to a certain village. Edge was at that village. The village had been already attacked by vampires, and Edge's older sister had been already taken away. Edge pleaded to be allowed to come along when Flik and Viktor started to head off to take care of the vampires. Viktor lent his Star Dragon Sword to Edge when Edge told him that he wanted to be an independent great swordsman. Then Edge splendidly gave the final blow to the vampire and rescued his older sister. Right after this battle, Flik and Viktor heard that the Harmonian Army invaded the country of Dunan. At that time, Viktor gave the Star Dragon Sword, who had already been an annoyance time after time again, for Edge to borrow for the reason that "there might be other vampires still present". Not knowing Viktor's ulterior motive, Edge was awed by Viktor's generosity and at this present time the Star Dragon Sword is by his side.

(Comments next to picture of Edge) The person who Edge referred to as an important person was Viktor. Edge idolizes Viktor's strong free and easy attitude and continues to go on a journey to improve his skills.

(Comments next to picture of Viktor) After hearing the rumor of vampire sightings, he meets Edge at the village he headed off to and lent the Star Dragon Sword to Edge. Since he was finally able to get rid of an annoyance, it seems like he doesn't feel the necessity to get it back.

(Comments next to picture of Flik) After the battle that took place in Suikoden 2, Flik went on a carefree journey with Viktor. After the vampire incident, they headed to Dunan to participate in the High East Rebellion.

Sarah Info

From Shinsho Vol.12

(Excerpt from Q and A corner featuring Sarah)

Q. Sarah's origins?

A. Sarah was raised in a shrine located in Holy Harmonia. Her place of birth is not exactly known, but it seems like she was born in a small village that didn't even have a name. She posessed the Flowing Rune from her birth and her magical powers were enormous from the time she was very young. She was continously detested for being a "witch" from her surroundings. A Harmonian Priest who heard such rumors desired to use her for her powers and took her in a shrine in Harmonia.

Q. How did Sarah meet Luc?

A. One day Luc happened to hear from Leknaat about the one, who is referred to as a "witch" by most, living in a Harmonian shrine. He was interested in this "witch" who had the same nickname as his mentor, so he went to Crystal Valley by himself to get a glimpse of her. Luc met Sarah, who was in her childhood years at that time. Seeing that she was raised in the same environment as himself, Luc offered his hand to her and took her back to the Magician's Tower with him.

Sgt. Joe Info

Here is the translation of the section regarding Sergeant Joe in Shinsho Vol.12

Q. What is the reason for Sergeant Joe to be living away from his family?

A. At one time Sergeant Joe lived with his beautiful wife and two children, but a certain tragedy struck the household. It was the sudden sickness and the death of his eldest son. At that time, Sergeant Joe was out for a long term battle between the Grassland and the Zexen Federation. He was informed of his son's sickness, but he did not allow himself to leave a battlefield where the progress of the battle was unfavorable. For this reason, he was not present at his son's deathbed. His own decision to live as a warrior vs not being able to protect his important family even if it was out of his control. After much debate with his own feelings, he decided to live separately from his family. That was the only means which he could mend his own soul as well as his way to show the greatest consideration for his family.

Jowy Info

Q. In the game, an episode from Jowy's childhood was referred to. Are there any other episodes from his life that were thought up?

A. There was nothing else in particular. But the three of them (Jowy, Hero 2, and Nanami) were treated as outcasts for individual reasons, and it seems like they mostly played only with each other. Q. Are there anything established regarding Jowy's birth father?

A. There is nothing particulary established regarding Jowy's birth father.

Q. From what was stated in the game, it seems like Jowy did not have a good standing relationship with his step brother, Marco. What type of person is Marco?

A. Since Marco is still young, he doesn't understand what is happening in his surroundings. He is just copying how badly his father, Marcel, treats Jowy. Simply put, he is ill-willed.

Q. Was the Greenhill invasion stratey thought up by Jowy or Leon?

A. It was Jowy's own idea.

Flik Q and A

Previously posted at suikosource strict forum.

From Shinsho Vol. 3

THINGS I WANNA KNOW ABOUT FLIK Q and A

Q1: How did you decide on his outfit?

A1: At the beginning process of making Suikoden 1, there was an idea to have a nickname for every character and it was decided from then on that Flik's would be "Blue Lightning". We also had nicknames for established characters like "The Wanderer Viktor", "Night Fang Camille", "Master Warren" at the beginning stages. Q2: Please tell me about his family.

A2: There is nothing established at this point. It seems like he doesn't have any brothers or sisters.

Q3: Was he an acquaintance of Hix and Tengaar originally?

A3: Since the Warrior's Village is not that big, and Tengaar was the mayor's daughter...to not know her seems quite impossible.

Q4: Is the house that Flik grew up in still located in the Warrior's Village?

A4: (Although it's never shown in the games) It must be there!

Q5: His trademark is his blue cape and bandanna. Is there a particular reason why it's all blue color coordinated?

A5: His favorite color.....maybe????

Q6: Did Flik have a master that taught him sword skills?

A6: The Warrior's Village is a descendent of the Holy Knight, Clift, so his sword skills are passed on through generations. Clift's sword skills were known to combine both magic and the sword, so training for both magic and sword skills takes place at the Warrior Village.

Q7: It seems like Viktor and Flik went off on an endless wandering journey together after the Dunan Unification War. In which direction did they head to?

A7: Since Viktor already fulfilled his objective and Flik doesn't feel like going back to the Warrior's Village, it seems that they both didn't have any particular place they were headed to. But since they both know that the only way they are going to have food on their plate is their sword skills, it seems inevitable that the place that they're headed is a battlefield.

Random Q and A from various Shinshos

These are the translations of Q and A sections that were printed in Genso Shinsho vol. 8-11

(Previously posted at suikosource strict forum)

Q. After Suikoden 1 ended, and Sydonia disappeared from Varkas, where did he go and what was he doing? Since Varkas was the only one to return to Suikoden 2, I would like to know.

A. After the liberation movement, Sydonia was given the same position as the head of patrolling the country's borders like Varkas, but he was not interested. He promised Varkas that he would return when he was needed, and went on an endless wandering journey. Q. Please tell me about the spirits that inhabit in Clive's gun. What type of spirit is it and in what way does the spirit select its owner?

A. The description of the "gun inhabited by spirits" is metaphoric, and it only means that its a special gun. (Some what like a legend.) So, there is no actual spirits inside the gun. But it seems that the gun may have a will of its own.

Q. It's been bothering me a long time, but why did Sierra become the holder of the moon rune. Is there a reason why she became the holder at the young age of 16?

A. It seems like it was a result of chance and luck. The details are unknown. (It was such a long time ago...)

Q. The sword (Tower -> Death -> Judgement) that Kirke was using in Suikoden 1 was used by Lorelai in Suikoden 2. Did something happen between them? Did Lorelai receive it because Kirke became a farmer and didn't need it anymore?

A. Lorelai is a realistic and practical person, so it was not such a big dilemma for her to throw away her own sword and use Kirke's instead.

Q. Didn't Nanami receive anything from Genkaku? The hero got the head accessory and the shoulder pads. POOR NANAMI!

A. The head accessory was given on the day they visited a festival. It seems like Nanami begged really hard for the food and snacks, and ended up eating all of it.

Q. What was Sanchez's position in the Imperial Army? Also, what happened to him after the Toran Liberation War?

A. He did not have a position in the Imperial Army, but instead worked for the Rugner Family. There were several supporters of executing him, but since the new united nation was only in the beginning state, and President Lepant worried about the restlessness and uneasiness that the ex-participants of the Imperial Army who later became leaders of the Liberation Army may feel. He negotiated an agreement for Sanchez to not be able to have a position in the political field or the military field, and also would not be able to contact anybody from the Imperial side. Qlon Temple took him in.

Q. Are Caesar and Albert brothers? Why are they not on speaking terms? What happened in the past?

A. Caesar and Albert and blood related brothers, but it is not clear yet what happened in the past. What we do know is that Caesar is following the trail of Albert as to remonstrate his actions of only using his talents for a promotion.

Q. Is there a way to know the true name of Ace, Queen, and Jacques? Since Jacques is my favorite character, I can't help but think about it. Please tell me.....

A. Since they don't feel like talking about it themselves, it will remain a mystery.

Q. It seems like Chris and Lilly had a big fight at the Zexen Anniversary Ball, what was the cause, and who was the one that initiated it? Also, how did they reconcile afterwards?

A. Chris, who was not used to dancing, missed a turn and plunged into Lilly's table, wine was spilled onto Lilly's dress. The circumstance surrounding their reconciliation is that the following day after the incident, they both thought how stupid the whole incident was. The details are mentioned in the newspaper article.

Q. Who is the person whose face is reflected on Geddoe's sword in the opening movie? It looks like Queen, but I am very interested to know. Please tell me.

A. It's Queen.

Q. In Suikoden 3, Millia is the chief of the Dragon Knights. So did Millia inherit the Dragon Rune?

A. Millia is the holder of the Dragon Rune. Joshua retired, but the details to his retirement have not been revealed.

Q and A from Shinsho Vol. 7

Here is a translation of the Q and A section found in Shinsho Vol. 7 ^__^

Q. Flik, Hix, and Tengaar (from the Warrior's Village) all wear bandanas. Is there a meaning to this? It seems like Flik especially considers his blue bandana as something meaningful...

A. It's a common thing at the Warrior's Village, but it is not anything that has a special meaning. It may be something that will be useful at the battlefield. Flik's blue bandana seems to be his personal trademark.

Q. Were Luc and Leknaat at the Magician's Island between the time of Suikoden 1 and 2?

A. Although Luc and Leknaat reside at the Magician's Island for the majority of the time, there are a few other places they can stay at as well.

Q. At what age did Leknaat and Windy possess the Gate Rune?

A. An exact age is unknown, but since they haven't aged since they possessed the rune, please use your imagination.

Q. I found 100 Potch at a knight statue located within Gregminster in Suikoden 1. I found 100 Potch at the same place again in Suikoden 2. Is this a hidden item? (Or a secret money hiding place for one of the soldiers?)

A. It is a place where a soldier hides his money. (Laughter)

Q. After Suikoden 1, Viktor and Flik had to come back after heading off from Toran to the City-States because Viktor remembered something he had to take care of. What was it?

A. He returned to get something he forgot. For Viktor, crossing the desert was a "daily" routine. It seems as though the trip was very hard and tiring for Flik.
