This is a question concerning the beginning of the game. I don't know a lot about the world of Suikoden, so please don't flame me for not knowing this.
[spoiler]
When Brandeau uses the RoP after attacking Captain Snowe's ship (after the battle with Brandeau and Assassin), it kills Assassin and all the Knights. But as we know, Lazlo survives.
Why did he survive? There was a force spere that repelled the power of the Rune. Was he about to be "chosen" by the RoP before Glenn showed up?

You know that indestructible black box that is used on airplanes?
Why don't they make the whole plane out of that stuff?

Don't worry about spoilers; they've been allowed for Suikoden IV for quite some time. Thanks anyway.
Supposedly, the green aura thingy that saves him is his mother protecting him from within the rune. This is supported when you finally "meet" the Queen of Obel within the RoP, and she has the same green aura about her.
The Queen of Obel is more than likely Lazlo's mother, by the way.

Nah--he's probably played it as many times as many people here.
But, in all honesty, when you first play the game, you think:
"What happened?" Then as you play, you remember all that destiny stuff, and think--okay--destiny helped him. Then when you find out, you say: "Dammit, Konami! Make up my mind!"

"There are three types of people in life: Those who make things happen, those who watch things happen, and those who say, 'What happened?'"
or something to that effect.
Yes, when I play, or watch movies, or the like "What happened?" is something I wonder. A lot.
