Yoshitaka Murayama has passed away

Post by Antimatzist »

Rabbit & Bear Studios just announced the passing of Murayama (link)

Here's the full note.
Hello everyone,
It’s with a heavy heart and deep sadness we must inform you
that the scenario writer and head of Rabbit& Bear Studios,
Yoshitaka Murayama, has passed away on February 6th
due to complications with an ongoing illness.

Murayama first began this journey of the creation of
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes in 2020
through the support of his very loving fans on Kickstarter.
Throughout the three-plus-year-development of the game,
it was always the passion from his fans that continued to
drive his creative vision and motivate him to put his all into the project.

His hard work on Eiyuden Chronicle as scenario writer was finished
but as his co-workers and friends, it saddens us to know that
he won’t get to see the reactions from his fans.

However, even with those feelings we need to accept
the reality that he is no longer with us and continue to push
his dream forward by releasing Eiyuden Chronicle to the world.

We want to maintain his legacy and vision with this game and
know that he would have wanted the rich world he has created
with Eiyuden Chronicle to live on.

His family sincerely appreciates your prayers and support
but asks for privacy and that no flowers, mail, or other offerings be sent.

We will have more information on organizational changes to
Rabbit & Bear as well as changes to some of the Kickstarter rewards
in the near future.

For now, we appreciate your continued support.

Rabbit & Bear Studios,
Junko Kawano
JunichiMurakami
Osamu Komuta

bits of 3-year-old memories from when I asked around a bit on one of Murayama's AMAs. It was awesome how Murayama constantly answer a lot of the questions and pleasantly joking around with the chatters as well

Sad news. I am grateful for everything he has done, bringing us all together. I am glad we will get EC and an opportunity to experience his story telling and world building one more time.

Rest in peace.

He's been such a strong muse in my life that I've sobbed over him. I'm so sad.

This hits hard. His creations mean so much to all of us.

"“No one is finally dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away, until the clock wound up winds down, until the wine she made has finished its ferment, until the crop they planted is harvested. The span of someone’s life is only the core of their actual existence.” - Terry Pratchett

I can't believe this happened. This is horrible news. Thank you for creating my favorite video game series of all time and making my childhood that much better! RIP Murayama

Very sad. I started Suikoden II in my formative years, I was maybe 14, at an age when you pick something to obsess over. My choice was Suikoden. I practically lived in that world. I'm so grateful to Murayama for creating it and giving me such inspiring and thought-provoking stories.

Not unlike everyone else here, it was pretty shocking when that information popped up on FB. I'll forget about it for a little while, then somebody else will post about it and I remember it all over again.

He wasn't involved in Suikoden V, but that's my main game right now and I'm constantly thinking about how he created this universe (with others' help) and how I'm enjoying his brainchild (in a way).

Shocking.

I wrote a eulogy-poem for him. Through the tears I cried.

Here it is:

"Reach
From the earth
Through the heath
Through the clouds
Unto the stars themselves

O, One Hundred Eight you grasp
And they gather 'round you
Like a crown

Be you contemplative and epic
Compassionate and fierce
For kindness is the greatest of all
That is martial and magic

The stars you sought are now yours
And with them you dance and dine
Ne're again will you suffer
And run free, now
For we will take the mantle and
Burdens aplenty from you
And keep them in your stead.

------
Amen

-For Yoshitaka Murayama

A Poem and a Prayer.

Hi Rooks, beautiful poem!

The speedrunning community will carry out a Murayama tribute marathon on RPGLimitBreak in less than 3 weeks (March 16/17). Will you mind if one of us recite this poem on the marathon?

Not in the slightest. I want to give the eulogy freely. I don't mind if people use it.
