I know it's supposed to be a collection of development materials, but I hope that cover lineart isn't final, heh.
More printed merchandise is definitely welcome~

Re: Illustrations and Artworks + Character Guide
Great news guys, photos of the publications have been posted on the genso-staff blog. The content is amazing.
Warning: photos are not spoiler-free.
Illustrations & Artworks: http://mp.i-revo.jp/user.php/genso-staff/entry/46.html
Awesome artwork, sketches, portraits, etc.. This publication might even rival the legendary Suikoden V LE Artbook
Character Guide: http://mp.i-revo.jp/user.php/genso-staff/entry/45.html
Relationships between the characters are detailed here. Not sure, but this publication might be rich in animation cut scenes as well.
More photos showing the actual size and covers: http://mp.i-revo.jp/user.php/genso-staff/entry/43.html
These are so big
I cannot wait to get my hands on these publications , they are so rich in content

Re: Illustrations and Artworks + Character Guide
Hah. The fact that they come up with two separate books for these materials means they are nowhere near beating the legendary artbook~
I'm liking the Illustration Collection lots, but the Character Guide looks a little strange. Still, is that page featuring Asad not in colour?

KING must have placed a lot of effort to come up with the legendary artbookpatapi wrote:Hah. The fact that they come up with two separate books for these materials means they are nowhere near beating the legendary artbook~

They don't give him the title Art Director for nothing, heh.suikodian wrote:KING must have placed a lot of effort to come up with the legendary artbook
Oh. That's a good sign. Still, I wish even those pages were in colour. The page featuring Asad looks similar to the side story pages at the end of Suikoden V artbook.
I've had an unfortunate encounter with a total rip-off of an OFFICIAL artbook that is 70% monochrome, so I'd rather not have Suikoden resort to similar marketing tactics.

Re: Illustrations and Artworks + Character Guide
These just arrived at my doorsteps today. Damn, these are thick. Easily the thickest pair of books this series have came out with, as far as artworks are concerned.
The Character Guide is surprisingly well done, with short stories for key story characters.
The Illustrations Collection on the other hand prints several work-in-progress for all the games' characters...

Anyone know who created the backgrounds? It's just fantastic!

Re: Illustrations and Artworks + Character Guide
Got yours, suikodian?
Just noticed earlier that there is a set of "unofficial" names being used for the main character, castle and company in the short stories and comic snippets.
Name: シグ (Sieg)
Castle: レーツェルハフト城 (Raetselhafte) supposedly means "mysterious"
Company: フィルヴェーク団 ("firuve~ku"?) supposedly means "many paths/ways"
(One Way vs Many Ways, get it?)
I'm hopeless at German, so if anyone knows, please confirm.

Re: Illustrations and Artworks + Character Guide
yeah, even though "rätselhafte" is plural... strange. but I guess grammatical correctness doesn't mean a lot to them.Castle: レーツェルハフト城 (Raetselhafte) supposedly means "mysterious"
firuve-ku could mean "Viele Wege" which means "Many Ways". Makes sense.Company: フィルヴェーク団 ("firuve~ku"?) supposedly means "many paths/ways"
Sieg means, btw, Victory.

I am currently playing the game so I just took a quick look at them and as you said the Character Guide is well done. I got the second encyclopedia as well and it looks really good.

Re: Illustrations and Artworks + Character Guide
Second encyclopaedia? You mean, Marugoto? It's an excellent work as far as combining all the Suikoden titles in one handy reference book, but IMO I prefer the format of the first Encyclopedia better~
What's the singular equivalent? Rätselhaft? The kana spelling would be the same for both.Antimatzist wrote:yeah, even though "rätselhafte" is plural... strange. but I guess grammatical correctness doesn't mean a lot to them.Castle: レーツェルハフト城 (Raetselhafte) supposedly means "mysterious"
