Can you get food items without the cooking skill?

Can you get food items from monsters without having the cooking skill?

Edit: Never mind I just found out that you can use the hunter rune to force the mantrika to drop his crab rice bowl. So, I guess it is technically possible to get food items without the cooking skill.
