Re: Technological Advancements
That's sad for Pablo, maybe the creation of firewind cannon was inspired by rune cannons.

Re: Technological Advancements
Rune cannons are all well and good, but in terms of technological advancements, Juppo is far greater than Worlock or even the dwarves. In Gadget, he has created artificial sentience. And no one seems to notice. People in the Suikoverse are all a-twitter about elevators and cameras and things, but no one seems to care about the fully-functional AI right next to them.

Re: Technological Advancements
Indeed Gadget goes from being a fairly small, and fairly intelligent, robot that can extend his arms and legs in SII for his Unite attack, to being a fully functional sentient war machine in SIII when handed down to Meg's daughter, Belle. But so far in the progression of games we've gone from pirates and naval exploration to what I would call the start of the Elizabethan period. So in human history you're talking about 200 - 250 years. Which looking at the timeline for Suikoden is about right to be parallel to us, which makes me wonder if it will continue as such. Meaning if another game was released a couple of hundred years after the events in SIII (roughly the Napoleonic era in human history), then I would expect most characters to be carrying flintlock pistols or long range muskets!! (This is were Clive and the Howling Voice Guild are in a league of their own!!) Would anyone here still view Suikoden in the same manner and be open to the gradual change in technology as the world advanced or do you believe that it should always be based in a world of swords and magic?

Re: Technological Advancements
My only question about the technology of the Suikoden world is who gets credit for inventing the elevator, because there's a handful of people claiming to have "invented" it.

Re: Technological Advancements
Are they? Sergei invents the elevator 150 years after Manu saying no one is interested in it when you recruit him, so it obviously didn't get much traction in that time. The people of Tinto tell you stay away from Adlai's elevator as it's dangerous. Oleg's camera get's no traction either as his ending states he's unable to sell his inventions.wataru14 wrote:People in the Suikoverse are all a-twitter about elevators and cameras and things, but no one seems to care about the fully-functional AI right next to them.
On the whole it would seem the people in the Suikoworld actually don't give a toss about technology.
They didn't invent the same elevator.freshmetal wrote:My only question about the technology of the Suikoden world is who gets credit for inventing the elevator, because there's a handful of people claiming to have "invented" it.

The first known elevator comes from the Sindar, then comes Manu and then the rest.

That's one reason why I was surprised about the existence of Adlai at all, of all the returning S1 character in S2 I think Sergei should have been an obvious one. They could just have him travelling northwards to export his inventions and bringing it to Northwindow Castle.
If I were to write a sequel to Suikoden 2, I would simply have Sergei coming back.

Is he ever actually seen playing it, though? I can't remember. It could just be an acoustic guitar in the looks of an electric one. Even if he'd play it, without amplification, you won't hear that much.

No,but if you had him in your party the battle theme will be changed into a metal version.
But where the hell did he found it...and those modern sunglasses and leather jacket? He looks totally out-of-sync with Suikoden's environment. He looks more like a mascot for some metal/hard-rock band
the only possible explanation is that...Viki teleported him into modern world and get his outfit from an actual mascot of some band as she did with...Kenji from S3 with his modern-day clothes

Re: Technological Advancements
I never used Moroon in combat, I'll have to take him out for a spin next time I play 5. Maybe he had some kind of weird experience with a sound rune or something, or maybe the beavers have legends about a "strange world with weird technology where people play magically powered instruments", and he's trying to emulate it?
Oleg's camera was utterly pointless. They might as well have had Lazlo and his friends witness the destruction of Illuya and just tell Lino about it. If a camera was invented back then, you'd think that Scarlet Moon and Highland would have security cameras in all their palaces and fortresses during events in 1 and 2. Maybe the visual recording device was banned from production as it was seen as an invasion of privacy or something? In that case, there could be tons of illegal porn floating around the Suikoden world.

Hands off! Charm Orbs are not for sale!
In a world where almost everything can be done by magic, and where there existed a civilization that seemed to have been technologically ahead and yet disappeared, people just lack the motivation for technological advancements.

We are the Sindarins, and Suikoden is our world after the nuclear apocalypse.
