Not trying to dampen your outlook on this. But the only RPG franchise to ever do this to my knownledge was Final Fantasy on the PS1 and I don't think it turn out too well...

...hmmm, dampen...that worked, but I never heard of a FF fighting game...your not talking about Tactics are you? I recall that being big....to me and my cousin at least, and anyone we talk to that played it.

Are you talking about Brawler or what It's name was that Squaresoft did? Cloud and Tifa was unlockable charachter right? Maybe Sepiroth too? Wasn't a big succes from what I heard, I was to buy it but the store was out of them.

Re: A Suikoden Fighting Game?
Ah... great idea. A mini-game for a future Suiko may be? not necessarily "mini" I mean, it has to have many benefits like EXP or rare armors and items, runes and skill points or something like that. Or maybe a requirement to progress to the story.
OR..
OHHHH IVE GOT A BETTER IDEA!!! Why don't they replace the one-on-one duel system with a fighting/ arcade-like game! o0o0o0o0oohhh... nice..
OR the combination of both.....

Strangly there is already a topic about this. Kind of old though...

This can come true, if someone was to work on M.U.G.E.N and make sprites.

And time travel, too. S4 happened about 150 years before S1.

Re: A Suikoden Fighting Game?
as long as it was more like ff dissidia then castlevania judgement (which as it is also konami would be more likely) then it might be enjoyable.
personally i would have it with 2D fighters and 3D backgrounds.

Re: A Suikoden Fighting Game?
So, MUGEN, anyone?
How about you select your character/s depending on the mode: Single Mode and Team Mode.
Team Mode will consist of up to 4 people, with most people taking up 2 slots max.
Then you "Choose Your Destiny" or something like that, symbolized by the following TR icons:
-Soul Eater
-Rune of Beginning
-True Fire
-Rune of Punishment
-Sun Rune
For each path, there are 10 stages for Solo Mode, and 8 for Team Mode.
At stages 4 and 3, respectively, there will be mid-bosses; rivals for some characters in Solo Mode at Stage 8; rivals or sub-bosses at stages 9 and 7; and then the Final Bosses for each final stage of the path.
The battle set-up will consist of each character having a moveset plus special attacks, some
based from their natural moveset, some based from the runes equipped on them. Level 1 and Level 2 spells can be used as special attacks, Level 3 spells as one of their DMs (Desperation Move), the other being based from their normal moveset, and Level 4 being one of their SDMs.
For example, I chose Flik(Lightning) in Solo Mode and the True Fire Path, then I would encounter the following:
Stage 1(random) - Riou (Bright Shield)
Stage 2(random) - Jowy Atreides (Black Sword)
Stage 3(random) - Sheena (Earth)
Stage 4 - Luca Blight (Rage Sword)
Stage 5(random) - Edge (Thunder Sword (?))
Stage 6(random) - Chris (True Water)
Stage 7(random) - Geddoe (True Lightning)
Stage 8 - Viktor (Titan)
Stage 9 - Luc (True Wind)
Stage 10 - Wind Phoenix
Suppose I went for Team Mode and chose Riou(Bright Shield) and Jowy(Black Sword), True Fire Path:
Stage 1 (random team) - Eilie (Lightning), Rina(Fire), and Bolgan(Fire Breath)
Stage 2 (random team) - Viktor (Titan), and Flik(Lightning)
Stage 3 - Luca Blight (Rage Sword)
Stage 4 (random team) - Hugo(True Fire) and Sgt. Joe(Water)
Stage 5 (random team) - Geddoe(True Lightning), Duke(?), and Ace(?)
Stage 6 (random team) - Chris(Phoenix), Borus(?), and Percival(?)
Stage 7 - Sarah(Flowing), Yuber(Eightfold), and Luc(True Wind)
Stage 8 - Wind Phoenix
Hmm hmm... I'm seeing Luc as a younger Goenitz here, with The Shredding as just his special attack! And not only that, Shining Wind as DM, and Eternal Wind as SDM! No other sub-boss more insane than that.
For those who don't know Goenitz, he's from King of Fighters 1996. Like Luc, he's a wind mage.
Oh, you think Sarah's weak because of her Flowing Rune, do you? Well, how about Breath of Ice as just her special attack and Silent Lake as her DM? You can't use special attacks or DMs during SL's duration!

Re: A Suikoden Fighting Game?
mugen is great and a suikoden fighting game would be extremely cool but without a multitude of sprites, a mugen suikoden game isn't going to be very impressive. now if there were some skilled artists on these forums that volunteered to make original sprite sets that would be another story. importing sprites from s2 is a possibility but you would have to comfortable with little to no moves and you're stuck with outdated graphics.

Re: A Suikoden Fighting Game?
I once started on a Luca Blight MUGEN character...my interest died but I had to end up spriting and they actually looked decent. There is a site that has ripped sprites off a lot of games (including Suikoden 2), I just can't think of it off the top of my head; Google works wonders though. I think I had all his basic motions, from crouching to standing and walking. Walking was a pain, and I don't recall how it looked when he walked with my sprites.

Re: A Suikoden Fighting Game?
yeah i was working on a flik one b/c flik has a lot of different sprite options from s2. the website is spriters-resource btw. i'd be more than happy to keep working on it just for the heck of it, especially if people want to contribute sprites. to actually get a playable game set up the most important thing to start would be two complete sets of sprites for all the move options.
