I think people from warrior's village do have weird names...but I guess since it's the Suikoden world, maybe whoever thought of the characters' name just don't care if the names sound weird in real world...

Like Jowy for instance (English is not my mother language so I always spell "Jowy" like how you spell "slowly") sounds too cute like it's for a girl. And Tir, it just doesn't have a cool sound to it (though the person who bears the name is absolutely cool).
Oh, and why would they gave "Redrum" for Borus' name...that's just cruel :D
And talking about the Zexen Knights, they had a lot of King Arthur stuff for their names...don't they?

The good names are Mathiu, Shu, Nanami, Lymsleia, etc.
And there are some cute names as well like Apple (how does it feel when people make fun of you cause you have a fruit for a name).

Try being a lonely peasant boy named "Seed"......now THAT's sad......who the heck gave him that name.....

But yeah, Apple's a nice name. I use to have a classmate with the same name as that....good thing they never followed up with names like "Grapes" or anything *phew*.....

Yeah even though it's a name of a fruit it's still okay cause "apple" sounds cute. It'd not be cool at all if you have "banana" as name though...

As for the names of Falenans...I guess their weird names are what makes them Falenans...^^;;;

No appreciation for names adopted from foreign culture?

Like how they go out of their way to have fuse many cultures together into the setting of Suikoden, it's of little surprise that they'd do the same with character names (also locations, weapons, etc). The Falenas' names were a good intro to Zoroaster deities, for example.

Yes, it IS a good starting point since Zoroastrian deity names aren't very widespread. It takes some amount of time to getting used to those that were introduced, though...

I dunno what kind of names they're planning to use next....*sigh*.....they could at least pick some that sound more pleasant and fit the character.....

Actually, I notice this to. It's refreshing to see names from all over, rather then just Japan made named. I see a lot of German and French, as well as English, Chinese and more. It's just some of the names used are out of character or seem kind of random.

Yeah, hearing only the names from the same culture's getting really blunt.

And pardon my 'eloquence', everyone if it really sounded quite offending like I have no appreciation for names from other cultures.

Really? I can't picture Luca as a cute chibi lol.

I know someone in real life named Luca and he's a pretty cool guy in my book, so I guess when i hear Luca's name is reminds me of him and therefore sounds cool to me.

I tried making a Luca Chibi but it ended in failure......the cuteness was over-powered by his wonderful and sublime madness.........

Yeah, it would be like trying to make a chibi Yuber, you see the cuteness but then the undeniable madness admitting from him makes even a chuibi look evil.
