[FAQ] STR and DEF cap of the monsters

I've currently tested with the stat caps a bit, and as you can see in the statgrowth guide on this site, STR and DEF are not capped at 255 for the monsters. For Shiro, the one I feeded with stat stones a lot, STR and DEF can be raised up to 561. I wonder why it is such an odd number...

Stat stones affect the monsters actually double, even if the game lists the normal increase value 1-3, they will raise by 2, 4 or 6.

Warrior rune substracts 50% of Shiros DEF but adds only 25% (normally 50%) to his STR. With max STR and DEF he can reach a value of 701 STR at all.

Does anyone know if it is the same for the other monsters?

It's the same with every monster in the game. The reason is that they can't be equipped, therefore have a lack of def and strength. Also the don't carry weapons. The two-slot monsters I think have even bigger stats because they take those two slots.

Warrior Rune adds 25% of DEF to STR in this game, that's just how it is. it's "PDF becomes 50%, and 50% of that amount is added to STR"

Ah, that's right. I misinterpreted the formula.

Still, the odd value of the cap bothers me, as well as the double profit from the power and defense stat stones.

I raised Sigfried to Level 99 and his STR stat reached 579, so maybe 561 is the cap only for the small sized monsters?

Nice tidbit about the stat stones doing double too.

IIRC max stat on big monsters is 840.

If you want to test, just use a real time hex editor and lock the character level to 1. The char will keep getting levelup stat bonus but remain at lvl 1. Eventually the stats will be maxed out, it doesn't take more than 2-3fights to reach 999hp and max stats.

CelesDestiny how did you get unlimited amount of DEF stone? I am sure you can't right?

I tested with the monsters, using the well known trick. It was not part of a real file attempt.

The monsters actually have the same stats as the normal characters, but they have a modifier applied to their STR and DEF similar to the modifier in Suikoden III.

EDIT: I had messed up some of the non-star squirrels stats. But after playing the game again I discovered my mistake and I have corrected them.
