Battle with Luca

Does he actually have an amount of damage have to be done for the first two parties? I was battling him for the third time (different files) and my first party got 'beat' by him because they said retreat even though I still had 2 people left, then my second party 'beat' him and then he ran to me and we finished him, but my question is I know he has a certain amount of HP but does it really matter untill the fight with your party (one with Riou in it)..and if it does does the damage remaining from previous fights stack? (just random life numbers for the example)
EX. Party one does 1000/1500 then they have to retreat...
Party 2 normally has to do 1500 but since the first party's fight ended prematurely do they have to do 2000?
And if party 2 fails to do 2000 (say they do 1000) does party 3 have to do 4000 (if they would normally do 3000 to end it)?

yes, i've read that if any of your first parties fail, his remaining HP is more in the battle with Riou.

i'm not really sure, i normally go solo with riou vs luca during this, i use all my high level ppl in the first two partys and keep riou solo with fire sealing on

It'd be cool if whenever you solo with Riou on a boss if it went to the dueling type battles...

Yeah, some would be harder while others would be WAY to easy...like last boss, so its good balanced.

I was going towards easy cause all the last bosses in the Suikodens are all super powerfull magic casting people...but that works too.

It could be...

Like

Luca starts with 8 000
He retreats with 6000 left
The he fights again and retreats with 4000
Riou takes him on with 4000 left.

I think its is this way, because once. I totaly failed. Both my two parties got eaten by Luca, and I had to fight him to early. But after a while of fighting I manage to kill him.
