Waking Riou

I've noted that alot of different characters will wake Riou at different points. Eilie, Millie, i've even had hix wake my character. What determines this? is it just random, or is there a set value determined by some factor?

If Eilie woke up Riou, chances are she will always wake him up at that point in the game. Other times it will be a random character that you have recruited. Seems to be characters who don't join automatically.

I think it's just any random character. I replayed the same part once and Emilia, Yam koo then Freed woke him up. Freed joins automatically.

I'd like to point out there is a chance the beasts can wake Riou up, and the large ones get stuck when walking around, so the game sits forever waiting for them to go.
