Stat Growth

Post by Isiolith »

Just a quick question -- according to the stat growth guide, characters with a B rank in a stat (Jowy's Strength, for example), should end up with a maximum of 187 in that stat. However, when I did a level-by-level write-up of what the character's stats would be if they gained the maximum, I ended up with 191, four points higher than the listed maximum. Did I do something wrong? o_O

Also, for the beasts (Shiro, as an example), can one take a character of the same stat growth (both he and Kinnison, say, have a C+ in STR growth) and multiply it by 2.2 to get what their stats should be at a given level? (It would work the same way as taking the growth of 2-3 and multiplying it by the proper multiplier, right?)

Did you take into account that level 1 has no growth? The transition to level 2 is the first time you apply any of the bonuses. So at level 1 you just have the base stats with no bonus.

Yes--but then I worked backward from 187 and got the baseline stat as 11 rather than 13. Below are the numbers as I got them. The only thing I can think of is when moving from 59-60 and 19-20 I messed up.

The transition to 20 and the transition to 60 are both governed by the higher level tier. Thus 19->20 would only give a bonus of 2, and 59->60 is only 1. That should make the base stat match up.

That's where I screwed up. Yahoo! Thanks. :-)

Going by the numbers, a character with S-rank growth who somehow defies the odds and gets max stats hits 255 at level 90, making 91-99 wasted levels in what particular stat. Good thing no one has S-ranks in everything...

I find it weird, too, that an A character can have a lower max stat then a B+ one. Have all the Suikoden games worked this way?

Do the monster characters have the same base or is their base multiplied by the appropriate modifier? (I.E., does Abizboah start with 14 or 43 [14*3.1, rounded down]?) I'm going to assume it's the latter, but I'm not 100%.

In S2 the monsters have their base stat multiplied (Abizboah's STR stat is in the high 600s at level 99). In S3 they do not (Fubar's STR is in the 150s to 160s).

^ Because the Beast weapons in these two games are different.
In S3, STR determines weapon power value for the beasts while this mechanic doesn't exist in S2.

Something I noticed while experimenting lately:

Rina has an HP growth rank of D+ which means that between levels 2-19 she should only gain 7-8 HP points per level up until level 20+.

http://www.suikosource.com/games/gs2/gu ... growth.php

However, I got an anomaly when I reached level 9:

http://postimg.org/image/r6bshtmfl/

And subsequently, I was able to get an HP growth of +9 on level 10.

But for some reason, her HP growth rate reverted back to the norm for levels 11-13 (I was not able to replicate the +9 to HP after literally hours of soft-resetting).

Then all of a sudden she gets another +9 to HP on level 14 (after only three soft resets):

http://postimg.org/image/tugbem3jr/

Just throwing this out there for anyone interested in looking into this further.

Update (2013/9/7):

After further testing, I was able to reproduce the HP stat growth anomaly for levels 15-19:

http://postimg.org/image/z8eyhkkwv/

http://postimg.org/image/4m6dp0z1z/

Rina's stats at level 19:

http://postimg.org/image/9p5zacsfr/

Progression:
lv 4 - HP 40
lv 5 - HP 48 (+8)
lv 6 - HP 56 (+8)
lv 7 - HP 64 (+8)
lv 8 - HP 72 (+8)
lv 9 - HP 81 (+9)
lv 10 - HP 90 (+9)
lv 11 - HP 98 (+8)
lv 12 - HP 106 (+8)
lv 13 - HP 114 (+8)
lv 14 - HP 123 (+9)
lv 15 - HP 132 (+9)
lv 16 - HP 141 (+9)
lv 17 - HP 150 (+9)
lv 18 - HP 159 (+9)
lv 19 - HP 168 (+9)

Over 30+ Double-Beat runes collected during this test (a good portion were sold no thanks to the inventory space) and I ended up with 370,000+ potch and 25+ hours on my game play time (probably more like 40+ if you count all the soft-resetting):

Level 20 HP gain looks normal:

http://postimg.org/image/hmg1up3ox/

Update (2013/9/8):

So I noticed the same issue with Nanami who also has an HP growth rank of D+ like Rina:

http://postimg.org/image/qn6spvlv5/

(Strange coincidence how the first occurrence is also lv 9)

Here are levels 10-11 and 14 for Nanami (could only get +8 to HP for levels 12-13):

http://postimg.org/image/efc9qb5tf/
http://postimg.org/image/vqzapr6wt/
http://postimg.org/image/dw8ubx9sr/

I'm starting to think that this may be the case for all the other characters whose HP growth rank is D+:

Chaco
Gabocha
Hoi
Luc
Meg
Millie
Viki

But the levels at which most of these characters join at prevent further testing. Only Millie and possibly Chaco remain it seems.

Update (2013/9/9):

Millie Level 10
http://postimg.org/image/b5af3emwt/

I had to give up on levels 7-9 because the RNG just wasn't cooperating.

I think Bolgan's Magic growth is potentially wrong. I'm manipulating stats for the battle with Luca Blight (using the stat stone trick), and my level 38 Bolgan has a Magic stat of 54 without me having touched his Magic at all. This is much higher than his E ranking would suggest (an E-ranked character with max growth would have a Magic stat of 47 at level 38). It seems more plausible that he's an E+ (max Magic 65 at level 38). Can anyone confirm?

I think those ranks are set the way they are because while B+ ends up being higher during end-game, for the most part of the game A is a higher stat. I do believe this stat growth also exists in other games.

S1: Viktor's STR (just like in S2)
S3: Cecile's SKL, Piccolo's MDF
S4: Ameria, Rita, and Helmut's MAG, Trishtan's SPD.
