Hi everyone,

Suikoden 2 was one of my first RPG game and today, he's still my favorite one!! Now I want to do an entertainement video about a speed run of this game, with an emulator and savestate(I wont be able to do this in single segment, huh)

So here is my objective for this speedrun:

-Aim for fastest time
-Best ending
-Do not abuse any programming error (no matilda border, no kindness rune, no infinite money, etc..(long list ))
-Can manipulate luck

In fact, I need to know how long I can wait to recruit a characther(example: I know that Clive is tracking Elza, and i have to recruit him before some "event")

Does there exist somehere a list that can tell me for each characther how much time I can wait?? Else I'll need to start over some "test game" to test each characther and whrote down any information.

our recruitment guide is pretty spot on in terms of the earliest you can recruit characters, and there are some tricks like using the pushable Matilda Gate to recruit L.C. Chan earlier the normally possible.
-for recruiting Gordon without wasting any time, simply earn over 50,000 potch in profits from the Trading Posts earlier during the game. then when you first meet him, he'll issue his challenge and you just have to speak to him one more time for him to join.

i read the forums at the TAS site and saw this comment: "Random battles happen on an RNG that changes every frame. It is possible to run with small breaks of walking to avoid all encounters."
i never tested with Suikoden II, but i tested in Suikoden I and found that battles are already predetermined pretty much when you first go into the dungeon. the battles occur based on the number of steps you take - you can try reloading a save state and moving a different direction or at different time intervals, but i bet you will always run into the same set of enemies after the same number of steps. your best bet is to take as few steps as possible through the dungeons.

this whole thing was long to write, while my native langage isn't english... don't fear to correct me on some point, I'm actually unsure if people are really interested to see a speedrun like this......

wow dude, you cover a lot of things.
it may have been mentioned by someone that you can recruit Hans, but I'm not sure if our guide accounts for it. it would save time for equipping characters because you won't have to travel to certain towns for certain equipment.

Wall Rune is useless, it forces the character to defend while doubling PDF. the character can counter-attack, but that's pretty much it. use our guides for quick reference.. http://www.suikosource.com/games/gs2/guides/runes.php

as for magic scrolls, no affinity is applied when using them, so they will just deal base damage. i don't even think the user's MAG stat is applied, but i haven't checked.

the Fury Rune is a rare find. these "reset" every 30 minutes. after the 30 minute interval has passed, the rare find is randomly generated when you talk to the shopkeeper - so you can try to manipulate time/luck to get the maximum number of Fury Runes in rare finds. i'm not sure if you can get 3 in 1 shot, but i think 2 is possible.

Double Beat Runes are pretty much the best runes in the game, and they don't waste time either (no extra animation like spells). Double Beat Rune, Fury Rune, Gale Rune (for high SPD characters only), and Double-Strike are your absolute choices for physical attacks.

Millie is an okay mage, i never bothered to use her that often. check out the stat growth page to see how she matches up stat wise... http://www.suikosource.com/games/gs2/gu ... growth.php

Zamza is very effective with a Fire Rune and won't do any extra damage w/Lightning - you can see that from the affinities page.

you can see the rune slots guide to see when rune slots open up - they are level based, and you can try to boost a particular character's level faster by making that character the only one alive when winning a battle (and being at a very low level helps for this trick). once Luc gets a 4th spell and Blue Gate Rune, you may want to try it to make some characters significantly more powerful and unlock their rune slots.

did you pick up the Exertion Rune? it's great. on the first turn the character starts with a 20% attack boost, and increases another 20% each round until it reaches 100%.

i forgot to ask one important question: The fight with luca blight have "three round", first flick, then viktor.. and finally the hero.. Does the fight with Flick and Viktor will really help to low the luca hp for the hero round???



I have thinking a lot about this... with the actual luck manipulation it can be so easy to level up a signifiant character. I'm still unsure this method to boost his XP is a glitch or not... If my team have only the hero(low level) in it and he win a *hard battle* does my hero will level up like the hell??? If I decide that keep alive one characther to level up easily is a *glitch*... I could make this whole run without never get an uncouncious characther at end of battle or something. I have to decide about this as fast as possible.

I dint know that the rare Items reset after 30minutes, thanks (I thinked that this was pure randomless(but more reset possibility with time or something...) one time I tryed the trick at Toran Republic to look up behind the runemaster office and it reseted the rare item.. does this is the only one to do this??)

I should probably make some test about these growth stat... try to looking if i wait some frame, I could get better stat, etc

the exertion rune is not on my way now, I'll probably wait to get Stallion and the blink morror to go to kobold village (the hix and tengaar quest is a good one to get some characther in same time.. example: get Sid in the sewer and persmegea in cave of wind(this is far later... so I'll probably end this quest near the end)).

last one: can we really found out a darkness rune in neclord caste ?? (north windows)

I haven't seen a game mechanics guide on this website, however I doubt this is a glitch as this behavior is pretty standard for games. Basically, if you have 4 characters in your party then every member will get 1/4 of the experience the monsters give. If 3 of them are dead, however, the person left standing gets all of it. (if you have something like in FF8 where the person who gets the final blow gets more exp, then I suppose the ratios are a bit different)

By the way, I found this on the 'game secrets' page (it mentions some details you didn't talk about on TASVideos, sorry if you already know all this):

Man you sure covered a lot of things :

- I don't know why you don't want to bother getting MukuMuku the first time you see him. If you want the best ending, just pick him up at the tree. Getting him "by luck" on the fields will be much more time-consuming and will just slow down your chances of having the least time played
- Yes, the fight with Luca is crucial. So, make sure to put good people in Flik's group. (Clive, Camus, & Flik have a pretty boy attack that can do 1000s)
- I haven't heard of BonBons dropping a Celadon Urn... it's best just purchasing it for 30k from the Trade Shop in Gregminster
- Bonaparte is VERY easy, you don't really need runes =/ Just keep Family Attacking him and Kinnison & Shiro's Unite. Heal with Millie when you need to (She's not that useful IMO =/)
- I know Gale Rune is COMMON but man... you won't believe how bad my luck was during that day... It took me a freaking hour to get a Gale Rune.
- Hunting for Double-Beats can be very much of a hassle as well. I usually hunt for one on my way to Kyaro and another one when Fliktor comes to rescue us.

and most of all... Put a Double-Beat Rune, Fury Rune, and embed an Exertion rune on your hero. The damage is UNBELIEVABLE and made me piss my pants ._. He does like 198 on EACH hit and criticals go over 1000.

You mean Miklotov, Camus and Flik?

picking up Mukumuku on the way to Greenhill will save time for the speed run because going through that area is required and you won't waste time having to check the tree. the only concern is having a party that is strong enough that you won't need a 6th member so that there is space for picking him up. if your party is too weak the extra battle time will beat out the time you could have spent getting Mukumuku earlier.

The Flik and Viktor battles vs Luca Blight's battles will not really save you any time. If you do not beat Luca with Flik or Viktor, his remaining HP from those battles will be added to the final battle with Hero - i think the most important factor is how fast you can beat Luca with Flik and Viktor's team and speed through the dialogue vs losing to him and going through the losing dialogue. I would just put my top damage dealers and work on maximum damage without healing - this way you may be able to beat Luca or at least you'll have done some damage to him without wasting time with heal animations.
however, since you're not going to be leveling up/setting up/optimizing a whole ton of characters in a speed run, you probably will have a bunch of weaklings in Flik and Viktor's parties - then the fastest method would just be to just let Flik and Viktor solo or get a unite (Flik + Nina is pretty strong, or Flik+Camus+Miklotov) to deal as much dmg as possible before they are finished. you don't want to waste time with weak attacks, and Hero w/Double Beat, Fury, and Exertion and a strong party will most definitely be able to handle Luca in the shortest amount of time.

& how often does Mukumuku show up on your party? Is it random?

Yes, that's how it should be, but this game have no logic about this... If I bring a low level (example: level20)... and he success to be the only one keeping alive on 6 ennemy level ~40-50, the XP maximum will overflow and the characther could grow up to level 70-90 (that is more level than reguliar XP for people on same level-monster based, as you can see)

I'll have to do some test with hero solo tying to kill some hard enemy if look up if the maximum xp is break... or it only work if we have 6 characther (i'm not sure if this if i explain correctly...)

@kte03: first, i don't want mukumuku earlier in the game, because I wont save nanami from highlander jail at begining to save time... We'll meet her again at muse city with mukumuku(if I hire him) just before the sindar quest. But, I'll HAVE to hire him in my team and he is not a valuable characther for the 2head sneak in sindar.

Also, while i'm using savestate in this game... the game become pure-theory... I can come back on a previous savestate to manipulate luck, on do some frame by frame for precision move, etc... So, to spare 10second i can take uncommon risk, that wont be used in a "normal game"... Manipulate luck can be a pain thought, but if there is a way to do it... I should be able to do it.

Trying to deal maximum domage on flicktor round, and die after look goods. In fact I was more about lighting rune level3.. this thing should blow a lot, quickly..

look like that luca blight have around ~6500hp: I wonder what could happen If we bring a high level that deal 9999999 damange on first down... does luca will die? (probably -1/3 hp for hero round... I'll made some test about this.)

I finaly find this, that talk about the earlier darkness rune in north windows, hum... but how work affinities about this rune? (maybe same as resurrection, again some test todo)

More i think about millie stat.. more I think that she can be become an excellent mage with his A affinities everwhere (but Empty World and Pale Palace from bluegate wont work on her cause of his weak water affinities)

ok, I have checked.. and magic scroll/card are affected by characther affinitie.. hm, just look at this:
Jowy and Millie stat (Millie should be weaker with magic)

So the affinities page, should be updated... maybe I'll help you to test these magic scroll, but I dont exactly how to proceed.

Now I *really* think that I should do something to prevent the *power level-upping*.. actually when I'll meet enemmy at level 40~50 I can do the well know trick and its an automatic wins to clear the game and beast rune.

I think to prevent this I'll have to add an another mention in this video, something like this: "Never have any uncouncious characther(0hp), when XP distribution or simply.. never have a failling characther at 0hp"

Get specific randoms Items from enemy is *very* had to get.. so somethime i make some weird move.. or longer battle, because I need to select "YES" at specific frame. If a make some move before.. that can change new RNS, so... testing frame by frame can be very long, as you can see.

I got 6 double beat-runes, 3 peeings boys(?ornament), 1 celadun urn(?vase)

With these peeings boy we should be able all buy all fury rune and other stuff that i need... to hire gordon, I think that I'll buys some crystal ball and sell them in kobold village or other items.

Next part, should be easier for me... I should get another double-beat rune and a flamming arrow from killerbee... then some recruting, get some cream cotlet from boar in ryube forest... and meet pilika(look like she take a verrry long time to show up and I'm still unsure how i should waste this time..).

I should correct some move in actual route, I'll do this soon

Actually I think that I made 2 big error in this game:
-kill the mist monster as the normal form (it could be easy to manipulate luck and kill him in femal form to get ~15K potch in the loot)

-To many useless battle in sparrow pass: 7 double-beat rune, 3 peeing boy, 1 flaming arrow (I've forget about that I could buy this scroll in item store) and the escape talisment i chest wasn't important



Anyway, ths run use many "trick" to manipulate luck... sometime it's faster to run in "the wall" or dont move ~2-3 second to avoid an incoming random battle or to get a specific enemy.

I think the fury wont be good for this run, our hero can made the entire party as beserk with some luck... first I prefer to attach some double beat rune, then killer rune, because this is almost impossible to get more than 2 people(in a full party) with critical hit.

Also, I made many test to get some cream cotlet from the ryube boar... while waiting for kinisson.. THIS IS TOTALLY IMPOSSIBLE!! I dont know... my party was: hero, jowy, millie versus 3 boar; I tested this battle almost 1500 time(I've also used super macro software to help me)... and there no way, they drop only some pointed hat. Maybe with some other characther I can have a better luck, but is to late for test this now.

I should say that sometime I dont try to avoid random battle and I use "run away", this isn't because i'm too lazy for manipulate luck.... to get stallion we have to run away 50time for our training!!

Finally, pilika show up at toto, only if we go in a "save screen" 2 time.
