Stallion glitch - doesn't dash on world map

So I've been planning out a speedrun route for Suikoden while recruiting all 108 characters. I came to a part after the Dragon Knights section, where I was just using McDohl and Stallion to recruit a couple characters (Pesmerga and Crowley) and when I tried to run from Neclord's castle to Qlon temple, McDohl was walking on the world map at normal speed. Dashing in towns and dungeons is still possible, but he doesn't dash on the world map. I tried adding one character (Cleo and Fu Su Lu separately) and it still happened. I added two characters (Cleo AND Fu Su Lu) and the world map dashing worked again.

So my question is, has anyone else had this happen, and is there a rhyme or reason behind it?
