Hello all,
This topic will list all monster levels according the following table

Character lvl = Monster lvl - 14 : 9.700 xp
Character lvl = Monster lvl - 13 : 9.300 xp
Character lvl = Monster lvl - 12 : 9.000 xp
Character lvl = Monster lvl - 11 : 8.500 xp
Character lvl = Monster lvl - 10 : 8.000 xp

Great work :)

Did you consider/test if these exp rates taken from S2 apply to S1 as well?

Character lvl = Monster lvl + 12 : 3 xp
Character lvl = Monster lvl + 13 : 2 xp
Character lvl = Monster lvl + 14 : 1 xp

Mt Seifu added
Rockland Soldiers fight to save the kid added.

Hmm... for xp between 5 and 0, I don't know yet, I didn't think about it though but that could explain why 200 xp is the base (coz it's in middle).
Will be hard to test but well I'll keep you informed...

EDIT 1 : Slasher Rabbit from Mt Tigerwolf added
EDIT 2 : You were right about xp for lvl + 12, lvl +13, lvl +14. I still have to test for lvl + 15... but well should start to be 0 xp there... Anyway, error fixed.
EDIT 3 : Actually not, the minimum xp reward is 1 xp.
EDIT 4 : Lenankamp Rebel's Hideout added
EDIT 5 : Holly Boy from Great Forest, Mathiu's House fight, and Toran Castle added (miss Dragon zombie since I was too low level and got max xp...).
EDIT 6 : Zombie Dragon, Kraze's Mansion Soldiers and Toran Castle Assassin added.
EDIT 7 : Gigantes and Kobold Village Soldiers added.
EDIT 8 : Dragon from Pannu Yakuta castle added
EDIT 9 : Soniere Soldiers and Pirates added.

Some explanations about how Varkas, Sydonia, Anji, Kanak and Leonardo levels were found.

Varkas & Sydonia : lvl 10 and 12
Varkas : lvl 12, since he has more hp than Sydonia. He joins at level 16.
Sydonia : lvl 10, since he can be one shot with Pahn + Gremio Unite. He joins at level 14 (so less than Varkas).

Pirates : lvl 35, 36 and 38
Anji : lvl 38, since he's the boss of pirates. Moreover, he joins at lvl 40.
Kanak : lvl 36, since he has more hp than Leonardo. Moreover he joins at lvl 37 when Leonardo joins at 36.
Leonardo : lvl 35. Because he's the one who joins at the lowest level.

As long as we don't extract these levels out of the game, we can never be sure. But I suppose you are most likely right about those, as your explanations make sense and that's what I would have thought as well :)

I'm looking forward to see the levels of the later bosses!

Explanation about Golden Hydra levels :

Since the fight gives 0 xp, I couldn't guess level of each golden hydra head, so ... I have searched in data and I found 3 Golden Hydra datas.

But I didn't really know how stats were written, so I researched The Magician's Island Golem of Luc to compare with what I knew.
(I know Golem level and HP so far, and an estimation about PWR)

In comparing, I found Golden Hydra were level 75 and had 10.000 HP each.
But, more over, I probably found stats but I have to do more tests to find which stats match with these values, and since each head has different stats (only for 2 stats I suppose PWR and MAG) I have to define also which head is concerned. Then follow (I think) all resistances in datas (which could help me to determine each head).

What I think for now is :
PWR : 570, 560, 540
SKL : 105
DEF : 55
SPD : 75
MAG : 420, 430, 470
LCK : 80

And all that is only half of the datas, I don't know what means the other part (probably drop, bits, link to sprite and link to fight script...)

Oh well, guess what ?

Kanak and Leonardo are not 36 and 35, but 35 and 36 -.-
And i miscalculated Anji he is 39 and not 38.

Anyway, at least, that proves i understand correctly datas so... I'm gonna have a lot of work :]

EDIT : The work is in big progress. Queen Ant from Mt Seifu added by the way.

All monster levels are listed now.

By the way, I succeed to get the following stats for each monster :
Level, HP, PWR, SKL, DEF, SPD, MAG, LCK, resists, bits, drops (and probably drop rate).

I'm typing it properly and I'll release it in a few.

For technical info about how I got data, these infos are grouped on 60 bytes for each monster, organized like that :

Name : [16 bytes], so 16 characters
Level : [1 byte]
unidentified info : [1 byte] -> it's probably type of monster (flying, undead, etc.) but have to check it
Stats (hp, pwr, skl, def, spd, mag, lck in this order) : [14 bytes] -> 2 bytes for each stats to read from right to left ('27 10' must be read '10 27')
Resists : [6 bytes] -> 1 byte for each element (in this order : fire, water, earth, lightning, wind, resurrection). 4 differents values : 00 - normal dmg, 01 - double dmg, 02 - half dmg, 03 - Immune
unidentified info : [1 byte] -> probably the range of monster but have to check it
Soul Eater resist : [1 byte] -> 3 differents values : 00 - normal effects (regular monsters), 40 -> immune to instant death (only boss), C0 -> Total immune (Neclord only)
unidentified info : [12 bytes] no clue about it, but it has a regular pattern
bits reward : [2 bytes] to read from right to left, like stats (moreover, reward for crystal core and shell venus are 7.001 (but 70.000 in game) and 10.001 (but 100.000 in game) so I guess the last digit is important for calculation, so I'd say the value is "reward = (number - [last digit]) x 10^[last digit] )
drop 1 : [2 bytes] -> 1 byte for item code, 1 byte for drop rate (almost sure it's just a %). there is more differents values than Common, Rare and Very Rare
drop 2 : [2 bytes] -> like drop 1
drop 3 : [2 bytes] -> like drop 2

EDIT 1 : Some precisions added about bits reward

Re: [Guide] Monster Level List

I started to test it in game according xp won in fight...

But I needed to restart game for boss so I did it, then I realized I couldn't get level for some monster like Queen Ant in Mt Seifu, Assassin in Toran Castle, Neclord when he's invincible because we can't win these fights, or Golden Hydra since there is no xp reward.

So I browsed the game files with an hexa editor, I searched a name of monster, then I compared what I knew about this monster with what I read in data. By this way, I localized where were written levels, resists, etc... Some datas are not pretty easy to understand, I still try to know what they mean (see above).

Here we go, I made a bestiary a lot more complete in .pdf file you can find there :

Suikoden I - Bestiary

Some info is still missing like which monster are flying, which have poison attack, etc...

All drops are listed but the Gigantes one (because yes, this boss has a rare drop... I think it's Goldlet, but since I'm not sure, I have to find which item has code '23').

I'm "almost" sure about drop rate as %. And drop order is probably the one listed too.

One more thing missing is Resists for Neclord after he's hit by Star Dragon Sword...

... And I know, some pictures are missing :)

Very interesting indeed!

However, the drop rates can't be right.
For example:
Dragon Zombie - Lightning crystal 80%
Nightmare - Opal 20%

They have to be way lower. I suppose it's x/256 instead of x%.

Wow, I can't believe that you guys actually spend time to discover all the good secrets eventhough this game is already very old. Great job and success! This game surely live up to its name and reputation!

Hmm, I don't know... it had no sense for me to divide by 256 here so...
Well, it would give us :
Lightning crystal : 31%
Opal : 7%

But we can't be sure until we find how it's calculated and for that, well dont count on me to find it xD

I know some other games - Breath of Fire for example - which are using the x/256 rates. I thought it may be similar here, because you said 1 byte is used for the drop rate.
Suikoden 2 has some items with a 100% drop rate. The value listet there, could give us a clue.

At least it has to be lower. I fought the Zombie Dragon many times, and got rarely a lightning crystal.

Same goes for the Nightmares. If they drop an opal 20% of the time (and just one drop is needed), you would receive an Opal around 50% of the time you fought a group of 3 Nightmares.

Perhaps it's even lower, I must admin, I don't know for sure :?
