As we all remember, when escorting 3rd Empress Consort Kureyah to Salsabil, the hero and his party are attacked by Misrach and his cronies, who say they are going to teach her a listen.

But what exactly were they planning to do?

Misrach doesn't seem corrupt enough to kill her, and the event was fairly lighthearted. It was kind of like earlier in the Grayridge Mine, when Macoute insisted that the hero and the others were plotting his assassination and even Gilliam seemed dubious.

So what was his plan then? I'm leaning towards holding her hostage and then "negotiating" with either her parents or the Magedom. He probably would have treated her as well as one can treat a hostage, because he really seems to be an honorable sort.

Other possibilities are that he just wanted to scare her, or maybe just chase her out of Salsabil. Or maybe he didn't really have a plan--just rush in and see what happens.

Well, Gilliam is kind-hearted (and Logan's friend) so I think he just tried to capture them.

Probably. He's the leader of the self-named Liberation Army of Salsabil. So his goal was to free Salsabil. Hostage and negociations to make Salsabil independant was probably his idea.

With this game, everything is possible, but the hostage and negociations seems more serious.

I wonder what would the Liberation Army's reaction if they discovered Kureyah's plan to let Salsabil have greater influence over the Magedom once Shams inherits the Mage Lord title. Would the Liberation Army reject the plan, or would they support it? Would it be seen as a good enough alternative to separation?

I guess the "Liberation Army" would realize they were wrong and useless, to finally disband.

Actually, this "Army" is depicted as ruffians by Salsabil citizen. Its power was limited to not say null.
Maybe after the Magedom of Janam disappears, Misrach was more important, but else I really think he wasn't important at all and probably more a nuisance than any other thing.

Anyway, that's one (more) point I dislike in Tierkreis. They call "wars" and "armies" what I'd call "skirmishes" and "squads/bands". It's hard to discern how powerful an army is in this game. Some are obvious (Pharamond, The Order and the Magedom), but other are vagues (Porpos, Roar Tribe, Misrach Army). Even our own army seems weak.

I doubt that Misrach's plan was well thought-out... His goal was to liberate Salsabil from the Magedom, so kidnapping or hurting Kureyah in any way would've done nothing for his cause (or damaged it, even). Shams' position as the Magedom heir was clearly Salsabil's most valuable chance at liberation...
I guess the situation was similar to that of Fredegund - Misrach was angry that Kureyah had given in to the Mage King instead of fighting back. But since that was obviously the best (and only) option at the time... Yeah idk. The rest of Salsabil's people seemed very supportive of Kureyah; it was only the Liberation Army who viewed her as a traitor, probably because they could not understand the complexities of politics. :/
In other words, Misrach may be an honorable guy but he's not a particularly smart one. Lol
