Flee or defend the castle?

I just wanna ask, to defend or to retreat and what is the outcome of both? Is there any character gonna die if I choose defend and I'm not gonna recruit other characters?

Roy dies if you defend the castle and you won't miss the recruitment of any character in neither decision.

Just to clarify, if Roy dies you can't get the good ending becuase you won't have 108 stars, so to flee is always the best choice. However, Roy's death scene is very touching so it's a good idea to see it once but not save afterwards and only save after choosing to flee.

i don't know if you can recruit Nick/Ax/Yoran if you defend the castle either. we have a questionable recruit method listed if you defend the castle.
