(Element) Attack+ items

Ok, we've all seen them. Water Rings, Wind Rings, etc. Items that have an effect of (Element) Attack +1 or something. Does anyone know what this does??? Does it add that element to your attacks, or is it something else??? It doesn't raise your affinity for use of that magic type (though Fire Dragon Armor does raise fire a rank and lower water a rank for magic affinity). Anyone know what it does??? Cause the Sun Set has every piece giving +1 Sun Attack.

i believe the rank in Stats needs to reflect both offense and defense affinities, so a +1 Atk won't be reflected. maybe if you can find a +1 Def it could bump the skill, but that might not necessarily be true either considering how they would have had to consider it when programming.
