Who are the storyline [non-killable] characters?

I did a quick search, but didn't see any threads listing this...altho with the word combinations used for it its likely that I may have missed it in my search.

But, Who are the story characters that cannot die? I'm sick of having to reload a game after getting half way through the ruins of obel because someone I thought was a story line character died. Not withdrew, died.

I thought Kenneth and Katarina were unkillable characters as well [ boy was I woefully mistaken.. The source of my frustration as well]
