27 True Runes

Hi, Reiz here. I’ve played Suikoden series in my past times. I think this game have a strong story, character, music and background that can stand a chance against other RPG games such as Final Fantasy. Which makes me wonder why is Suikoden series “dead”. I wish to see a revival for this series. Anyway, im here not to start a campaign for suikoden revival. I just want to share wallpapers that i made long ago. For the love of Suikoden. ^^

There’s also full description of all 27 True Rune, official and unofficial made by me (informations also compiled from many sources). Please give me some credit when you use it wherever it is.

1. Tir Mcdohl and Soul Eater Rune

Rune Abilities:
One of the cursed rune. If the True Rune didn’t fed souls (by killing people), the rune will fed on the bearer’s soul and will make the bearer having a pain or suffering until the bearer gives the True Rune “foods”.

Finger of Death : Instant kill on one enemy/ high damage to one enemy and absorb hp to self.
Black Shadow : Moderate damage to all enemies and absorb hp to self.
Hell : Instant kill all enemies/ High damage to all enemies.
Judgment : Extreme Damage/ instant kill on one enemy, revive one party member.

2. Milia and Dragon Rune

Rune Abilities:
This True Rune bearer bear a huge responsibility, because the death of the bearer means the death of all dragons.

Heart of Dragon : Berserk to all allies; x1.5 Speed to user for 3 turns
Fearless Fury : x1.5 pwr and def for 3 turns to all allies
Winged Rage : High non-elemental damage to all enemies
Mighty Wings : Berserk to self and very high damage to all enemies

3. Leknaat and Gate Rune

Rune Abilities:
The Gate Rune has the ability to connect worlds. Also probably has the power of teleportation.

Pale Palace : Summon monster of “world of undead” dealing moderate damage to all enemies/ instant kill to all enemies
Empty World : Summon monster of “world of emptiness” dealing high damage to all enemies
Hell’s Gate : Summon monster of “world of demon” dealing very high damage to all enemies
Heaven’s Gate : Summon monster of “world of heaven” dealing extreme damage to one enemy and full heal all allies

4. Barbarossa Rugner and Sovereign Rune

Rune Abilities:
The greatest power of this True Rune is that it protects it's bearer from the influence of other runes. Even other True Runes cannot overwhelm it's guarding force. Although the bearer may still be susceptible to be harmed by magic to a degree, his or her mind and body are immune to any form of control. This rune allows it's bearer to always remain autonomous and independent and also has the ability to transform into a gigantic golden three-headed Hydra.

King's Fortitude : Invincibility for 2 turns for caster and 1.5 defense for 3 turns to all allies
Absolute Right : Moderate damage to all enemies and raise defense and immune to elemental magic for 2 turns to all allies, defend from magic once to all allies
Absolute Order : Moderate damage to all enemies and raise defense from and immune to death magic and status effects for 2 turns to all allies, defend from magic once to all allies
Retribution : Very high damage to all enemies and give invincibility for 1 turn to caster [/spoiler]

5. Riou and Rune of Beginning

Rune Abilities :
A True Rune representing the "initial chaos of birth" inherent in times of creation. This True Rune is always found separated into the Bright Shield and Black Sword runes, and bearers of these two runes are bound by the rune's power to fight against each other until only one survives to win the other half. Scholars are uncertain whether the Black Sword and Bright Shield are the same "sword" and "shield" from the legends of creation, and no one knows what exact power the Rune of the Beginning bears. It is said that the rune grants its owner the power to "judge war."

Possible power if Bright Shield Rune and Black Sword Rune were to be united into Rune of Beginning :
Battle Oath : Moderate heal allies and give berserk status
Piercing One : Very high damage/instant kill to one enemy
Hungry Friend : High damage to all enemies and cause unfriendly
Forgiver Sign : Full heal and remove status effect to allies, Extreme damage to one enemy

6. Sierra Mikain and Blue Moon Rune

Rune Abilities:
Making the bearer become a vampire and the ability to control the vampiric cravings for blood. The bearer can also turn other human into a vampire.
Bloodsucker : Moderate damage all enemy and absorb hp to all allies
Carnage : Small damage to all allies and deal very high damage to all enemies
Compassionate Heart : Very high damage to all enemies
Blue Moon Curse : Extreme damage to one enemy cause sleep, unbalance, and blind

7. Luca Blight and Beast Rune

Rune Abilities:
If this rune was actually bonded to a human, it would likely have an effect like the Blue Moon Rune, with the bearer going mad and killing everyone near him or her.
Unlike many runes, which appear to have a constant source of energy flow, the Beast rune can only act according to the amount of energy it has stored (or is generated by the user). Because of this it is simultaneously one of the more potentially powerful runes as well as the biggest liability battle wise. It has also been shown that mass sacrifice, either through slaughter or the voluntary sacrifice of peoples' souls, can be an alternative power source for the Beast rune.

Tangible Passion : High damage to all enemies, damage varies depending on the user’s rage
Hungry Jaws : Give berserk status to self and deal high damage to all enemies
Calm Fury : Increases the casters Strength, Speed, Defense, and Agility by 50% for 3 turns. Will damage self if use more than once per battle
Beast Rage : Moderate damage to all allies, Extreme damage to all enemies give berserk status to all allies

8. Hugo Karaya and True Fire Rune

A True Rune representing the power of fire. The rune grants powerful flame-based spells that hurt friend and foe alike if within the area of effect.

Blazing Wall : Moderate damage to all enemies and raise defense from fire damage to all allies
Explosion : High damage to all enemies and cause burnt, very small damage to all allies
Final Flame : Extreme damage to one enemy and cause burnt, very small damage to all allies
Hellfire : Very high damage to all enemies and cause burnt, small damage to all allies, give berserk status to all allies, attach fire damage to caster’s weapon

9. Chris Lightfellow and True Water Rune

Rune Abilities:
A True Rune representing the power of water. The rune grants powerful healing spells along with attack spells to its bearer.

Kindness Rain : Moderate heal all allies, give protection to magic attack
Silent Lake : Temporarily suppresses magic use of enemies and allies and cause frozen to enemies
Mother Ocean : Revive one ally and full heal all allies
Heavenly Drops : Very high damage to all enemies and cause frozen to enemies

10. Geddoe and True Lightning Rune

Rune Abilities :
A True Rune representing the power of lightning. The rune grants incredibly powerful offensive spells to its bearer.

Bolt of Wrath : Moderate damage to all enemies and raise defense from lightning damage to all allies
Thor Shot : High damage to one enemy and cause unbalance
Thunder Storm : Very high damage to all enemies and cause unbalance
Hammer of Raijin : Extreme damage to one enemy and cause unbalance, attach lightning damage to caster’s weapon

11. Sasarai and True Earth Rune

A True Rune representing the power of the earth. It's powers are vast, granting great protection spells to its bearer.

Canopy Defense : Defend against magic once to all allies
Earthquake : High damage damage to all enemies and cause unbalance
Guardian Earth : Raises all allies Defense and Magic defense, guarantees counter attack for all allies.
Land of Eternity : Very high damage to all enemies and cause unbalance

12. Luc and True Wind Rune

Rune Abilities:
A True Rune representing the power of the wind. This rune grants a range of healing and attack spells to it's bearer.

The Shredding : Moderate damage to all enemies and cause sleep to all enemies
Funeral Wind : Instant kill one enemy/ high damage one enemy
Shining Wind : Moderate heal all allies and high damage all enemies
Eternal Wind : Very High Damage to all enemies and cause unbalance

13. Yuber and Eightfold Rune

Rune Abilities:
Unknown. Possibly the ability to summon monsters or teleport.

Skeletal Army : Summons several undead warriors to assist the caster in battle
Heavy Burden : High damage and cause blind to all enemies
Triple Illusion : Make 2 clone of self, will remain for 3 turns; if clone still remain until 3 turns , deal extreme damage to one enemy randomly
Torture Chamber : Extreme damage and cause unbalance to all enemies, moderate damage to all allies

14. Lazlo En Kuldes and Rune of Punishment

Rune Abilities:
Another cursed rune. This True Rune has great powers, but the Rune slowly draws the life force of the bearer into it, until the bearer dies. Also, the Rune carries the fragmented personalities of previous bearers inside it.

Eternal Ordeal : Very High non-elemental damage to one enemy.
Double-Edged Sword : High non-elemental damage to all enemies.
Voice of Death : Instant kill to enemies/ High damage to all enemies and give silence status effect.
Everlasting Mercy : Very High healing to all allies, Very High non-elemental damage to all enemies.

15. Lymsleia Falenas and Sun Rune

As the death of Arshtat, Queen of Falena, Lym is the only heir that have the possibility to bear the Sun Rune.

Possible powers of the Sun Rune:
Silent Afterglow : Moderate damage to all enemies and cause sleep/instant kill
Vermillion Sky : Instant kill all enemies/ high damage to all enemies
Light of Day : Moderate heal all allies, remove status effects and revive one ally
Creation : Moderate heal all allies, very high damage to all enemies

16. Leader of Sindar and Rune of Change

Rune Abilities:
True Rune that grants the bearer to travel time and space, but with an unknown cost.
Go Away!!!! : Teleport all enemies/ deal high damage to all enemies
Time delay : All enemies’ speed halved and deal high damage to all enemies
Quickening : Raise speed 1.5 to all allies and deal extreme damage to one enemy
Time Lag : Stops time giving one free turn and deal high damage to all enemies

17. Hikusaak and Circle Rune

Rune Abilities:
Unknown. The only known bearer of this rune is Hikusaak, a leader of Holy Kingdom Harmonia.

Cross Judgment : Moderate damage to all enemies and small heal all allies
Revolution : High damage to all enemies and give alert status to all allies
Circle of Order : Moderate heal all allies and revive one ally
Stagnant Flow : Extreme damage to all enemies, moderate damage to all allies

18. Viktor and Night Rune

Rune Abilities:
A True Rune representing the power of the outer space. The Night Rune either is or is bonded to the Star Dragon Sword, and has the ability to destroy 'creatures of the night', undead such as vampires or zombies.

Starry Stillness : Moderate damage and causes sleep and silence 30% to all enemies.
Comet : High damage to one enemy and cause silence to all enemies.
Meteor Shower : Very High Damage to all enemies.
Black Hole : Instant kill all enemies/ extreme damage to one enemy and high damage to other enemies.

19. Flik and Sabbath Rune

A True Rune symbolize faith, pride, honor. After Flik came back to Warrior Village and become the Chief of the village, he is told the deep secret of the Warrior Village about the Sabbath Rune. However, the Rune’s power is sealed. Seeing a great war is coming, Flik once again go on a journey to revive the Rune’s power to help in the war (with Viktor of course, we’re best friends right? ^^).

Rune Abilities:
Twist of Fate : Raise magic attack for all allies and deal moderate damage to all enemies
Pride of Man : Raise physical attack for all allies and deal moderate damage to all enemies
Knight’s Honor : Raise physical defense to all allies and deal high damage to all allies
Divine Reflection : Raise magic defense to all allies and deal extreme damage to one enemy

20. Freyjadour Falenas and Rune of Nature

After Falenan Civil War, Frey and Lyon goes on a journey with George. They traveled to Jowston and find a mysterious ruins, they progressed inside and surprisingly there is a True Rune sealed deep inside but the rune is uncontrolled and going berserk. Frey almost get died but Lyon protect him but Lyon suffer a great wound and died. Seeing Frey once get connected with a True Rune before, The True Rune takes him as its bearer but Frey got uncontrolled and tried to kill George. With a little consciousness, Frey use the rune’s power to trap himself in the ruins and allow George to escape. Still in shock with the accident, George goes on a journey to find someone that can help Frey.

George still in Jowston and witnessed that there is a war known as Dunan Unification War. He met the leader of the Dunan Army, Riou a bearer of a True Rune on a mountain path. George joins the Dunan Army and with his renowned skill he became one of the general of the Dunan Army. Seeing the power of the True Rune that Riou hold, George believes that maybe he can help Prince Frey somehow. After the war ended he ask Riou and his two friends to help the prince.

Rune Abilities:

Manafont : Defend magic once for all allies
Healing Breeze : Moderate heal and give regeneration effect to all allies
Fortune Arc : Very high damage to all enemies and revive one ally
Prosperity Land : Full heal all allies and deal high damage to all enemies

21. Clive and Rune of Plague

Clive have become a leader of the Howling Voice Guild. He got curious about his gun, Storm. After many events he learned that his gun hold a seal of a True Rune on it. He study the Harmonian history about the True Rune. After he got an information on it, he seek the True Rune on his own without the Harmonia knowing what he intended to do.

Rune Abilities:

Virus Invasion : Causes status ailments and deal moderate damage to all enemies
Final Cure : Cures from all status ailments and moderate heal all allies
Extreme Sickness : Extreme damage and cause status ailments to one enemy
Catastrophic Day : Very high damage and causes poison and venom to all enemies

22. Nash Latjke and Rune of Oblivion

After the Second Fire Bringer War, Nash with Sierra investigate a phenomenon on a village. Nash and Sierra found out that all the villagers are gone. They proceed on a forest where they find a mysterious man. Sierra sense that the mysterious man holds a True Rune, then the mysterious man told Sierra that he actually is have a True Rune called the Oblivion Rune. With the Rune’s power, the mysterious man created a reflection of memories from Nash and Sierra, thus revived Rean and Neclord. Nash battled Rean, but Neclord knowing he won’t stand a chance against Sierra, tries to get the Oblivion Rune from the mysterious man. Neclord killed the mysterious man and get the True Rune, but the rune reject Neclord as its host. Neclord use Sindar magic to get the rune but it make the rune splitted. Each of the half of the rune goes to Rean and Nash. Sierra take Nash and escape the battle. The consciousness of the mysterious man still live on the rune, but with Sierra’s Blue Moon Rune, she manage to repel the mysterious man’s power to take control of Nash. In the other hand, the mysterious man successfully take control of Rean. He blame Neclord for all this, but Neclord beg for apologize and the mysterious man gives Neclord a second chance.

The mysterious man and Neclord go on a rampage on nearby villages and cause many trouble on the land searching for the half of Oblivion Rune on Nash. Using the rune’s power, the mysterious man controlled almost the entire kingdom. Nash and Sierra hiding away, but eventually they formed bond with many people and formed a rebel forces. Then, a great war started.


Rune Abilities:

Lullaby : Cause sleep and moderate damage to all enemies
Broken Memories : High damage and cause unbalance to all enemies
Mind Domination : Very high damage to one enemy, gain full control of that enemy for 1 turn.
Nightmare : Extreme damage and cause unbalance to one enemy

23. Pesmerga and Crimson Rune

One of the symbol of the Crimson Clan. The leader of the Crimson Clan bear the Crimson Rune. The Crimson Clan experimenting on a True Rune called the Eightfold Rune. The Rune attached to Yuber, but it makes Yuber go on rampage, makes him a bloodthirsty beast that kill everyone near him. Yuber fled the clan. After that, knowing that Yuber hold a True Rune, the leader of the Crimson Clan knows that it would be suicide to send his men to get Yuber back. The leader tried to go get Yuber himself but he is too weak now. Then the leader appointed Pesmerga as the next leader of the clan and give his Crimson Rune to him. But Pesmerga is given a difficult task to get Yuber and his Eightfold Rune back.


Rune Abilities :

Greedy Obsession : Reduce physical attack and deal moderate damage to all enemies
Sinister Mind : Reduce magic attack and deal moderate damage to all enemies
All Mines : Reduce magic and physical defense and deal high damage to all enemies
Corrupted Vision : Extreme damage to one enemy, moderate damage and cause unfriendly to other enemies

24. Suikoden VI protagonist and Rune of Harmony

Rune Abilities:
The rune will grant its bearer an attractive aura, making the bearer’s opposite gender attracted.
Seduction : Moderate damage all enemies and cause charm to all enemies
Purity Soul : Remove status effects and moderate heal all allies
United Hearts : Give berserk status and deal high damage all enemies and cause unfriendly
One for All : Revive one ally, moderate heal all allies and deal extreme damage to one enemy

25. Suikoden VII protagonist and Enigma Rune

Tactical Strike : Give berserk status to all allies and deal moderate damage to all allies
Book of Wisdom: Moderate damage to all enemies and raise magic attack and defense to all allies
Counter Blast : Deal high damage to all enemies and guarantees magic repel once to all allies
Plasma Cannon : Very high damage and cause unbalance to all enemies

26. Suikoden Final protagonist and Transcendence Rune

Circle of Hope : Moderate heal all allies and remove status ailments
Promised Land : High damage all enemies
Great Miracle : Revive all party members with berserk and alert status but drain 1 point of lv3 and lv4 magic from all allies
Final Hope : Extreme damage to all enemies, invincibility for 1 turn to allies, invincibility for 5 turns to caster, caster died after 5 turns

27. Suikoden Final antagonist and Chaos Rune

Rune Abilities:
Darkened Blood : High damage and cause blind, charm, unbalance to all enemies
Tome of Sacrifice : Sacrifice 1 ally to high heal all allies, moderate damage to all enemies
Armageddon : Very high damage and inflict status ailments to all enemies
All’s End : Caster charge power for 5 turns and can’t move or attack, dealing high damage to all enemies on first turn. After five turns instant kill all enemies and fallen enemies can’t recover, which means “game over”

I had a few ideas for true runes:

Chrono Rune - Makes the user age at an extreme rate.
??? ~ 250: Old man's skeleton near rune.
250 ~ ???: Sindar Ruin (sealed)
??? ~ 480: Village (Sindar Ruin)
480: Hero VI

Griffin Rune (every 100 years a tournament is held to determine the next Griffin Master. The one who wins the tournament is given Griffin rune and the title of master.)
0 ~ 100: 1st Griffin Master
100 ~ 200: 2nd Griffin Master
200 ~ 300: 3rd Griffin Master
300 ~ 400: 4th Griffin Master
400 ~ Present: Odin Hironimus

True Resurrection Rune (The Rune of Exorcism)- Albert stole the rune, and gave it to a slave kobold named shadow from Harmonia. Albert told him about the western continent, and how it was free from harmonias's influence. This was the beginning of Albert's plan. He informed the high bishops and the bishops contacted the elders from the howling voice guild. Assassins from the howling voice guild were dispatched to hunt down, and kill the kobold and retrieve the stolen rune.

????? ~ 479: One Temple - Crystal Valley
479 ~ 480: Albert Silverburg (Stolen)
480: Shadow Akimaru (runaway kobold)
480: Siggath Lee (howling guild squire)

Suikoden VII
Rune of The End - split into two? Where there is a beginning, there is an end. Harmony symbolizes total peace and without war the world is safe. Thus bringing the end of the beginning. Where there is Chaos, there is annihilation. Wars can bring the world to an end. Together these two runes bring the end to good or evil. Apart they fight until one is victor.

The art you used for your Rune of Purity from Suikoden VI was actually designed by a friend of mine for the Suikoden Dungeons and Dragons game I ran a few years ago. Only I called it The Rune of the Heart and it symbolized Love and Loss. The artist would be very pleased that her work inspired someone to create something of their own, but I'm sure she would like credit for the image.

You don't have to worry about that. Just add "Rune art by dkard.deviantart.com" under the image.

This is SUPER OLD. However, my image for the Plague Rune, Your Oblivion Run and Eightfold rune were all mine images. I NEVER HAD ANYONE SAY ANYTHING, THIS IS SO COOL THAT YOU USED THEM. DANG IT, this is 6 years later and I am only seeing this now! I LITERALLY WAS SQUEEING THAT YOU USED THEM. OH MAN OH MAN OH MAN. <3333333333333333333
