Which is one of the reasons only the Suikoden fans know about the bloody franchise. No living soul that is used to the media hype of Final Fantasy will ever know about Suikoden, unless Konami starts to pay some attention to the media for once.

Is true that Suikoden never was announced in TGS or other events and may be...that is the problem.

The problem isn't really how many time pass between games are released. If we look how many years of difference are between main titles, there isn't nothing to be afraid (yet).

The problem...is that "silence" politic that Konami uses with Suikoden.

May be we are used to the new system of "announce the games at WIP 10%, 3 years before the release" so we fear that when the game will be announced we must to wait 2-3 years more to obtain it.

Also, this symptom is aggravate due to the fact that we see how the other rpg franquises are expanding, each few weeks you hear: "New Tales of announced for...[Insert random system here]", "New Atelier game confirmed", "New megaten port" "SO goes to PS·3", "FFXIII inminent, get hyped, prepare 100$", "Valkyria 2 confirmed PSP", "New [Insert random rpg series here] goes DS", "New countdown on $qua€, that time for sure is FFVII remake"...

And suikoden series is...like if it didn't exist in j-rpg community.

What i mean with all this is that...well, anyone expects, to get a new Suikoden game each two years, but at least we want know if...there is something to wait for. I at least, would be happy if they say "Yes we are working on a new one" or even with a "No, we are not going to follow the series" would be enougth.

We don't need the anounced game "NOW!" just we need to know if this is alive or not.

Aside from that, a solid marketing strategy would do wonders as well. How much hype has Konami generated for any of the Suikoden games in the past?
Practically nothing, at least not in the West.

If we take Castlevania as an example, Metal Gear Solid and Pro Evolution Soccer, we can see a clear gap between media attention between those 3 franchises and Suikoden, yet they all come from the same developer, albeit a different team within the company.

Why don't they use the TGS to spend time on a new Suikoden game? Why is Konami so silent about Suikoden VI, or any possible new Suikoden game? It does nobody any good and they draw the shortest straw, because they loose more money. Unless they start hyping the, hopefully, new Suikoden game, I think it might sell worse than Suikoden V did, even if it is a remake of Suikoden I and II.

it's kind of just one of many flaws with marketing in general. if it's not an expected heavy-mover, then not a lot of money or attention is put into marketing it. while at the same time, how can it ever be a heavy-mover if the company never advertises it well?

bleh.
