One-Hand RPG

Post by Mio »

i dunno bout you guys but if anybody asks me if i know a game that you can play with just one hand the entire time

i know my answer...

it's Suikoden - at least i recall II and V

i know no other game...

did anybody else find this feature convenient, handy, and useful?

or is it a feature you barely use?

I wanted to know if its worthy of being a signature/trademark feature of Suikoden

Hahaha, great topic!

Suikoden II can be played actually by using a hand-- at least in MOST times. L2+direction keys for run and L1 for (x).

And it is sooo convenient. After all, a free hand really is useful. :)

I just hate the status screen button. lol.

noticed it for a long time already and yes, I do find it useful. I do it all the time. To me, it is already a signature for GS since it is the only game that I've played so far that does it (RPG)

It's definitely very "handy" to go through the game using half the controller, finally a game that supports people who like smoking while playing lol.

i sometimes eat when i play. it's good to not have to press the pause button and grab a bite or something. it is a nice little feature, although i could go on without it.

it's kinda cool that the series actually takes advantage of its simplicity. YOU CAN PLAY IT WITH ONE HAND! most games wouldn't want to admit that i guess.

S3 also utilizes the one handed controls. Also, I don't remember if 2 or 5 allows you to use the R3 joystick, but 3 does. So you can use right or left one-handed. Frankly, the left handed is better because you can use the L1, L2, and L3 buttons all at the same time. It's hard to press R3, X, (triangle), (square), and O all at the same time with your thumb.

Nope, SII doesn't support R3 since it completely doesn't make sense. Remember R3 and L3, especially for PS1 games, are mostly for games with characters/indicators that has free movement, unlike SII with Riou only allowed with the basic directions. But a left hand alone will make it a one-hand RPG.

One thing weird is that you don't know where to concentrate....

One handed controls + Wireless controller is awesome. I could cook some simple stuff in my adjoining kitchen (since i can still see my tv from there) and then eat, all without stopping gameplay. Thought this was generally when youre just moving form one place to another and can handily take random encounters with "auto" fighting on

Actually one of my other favorite RPGs.... Earthbound.... is also designed to be able to be played with one hand. I found it very nice at times ^^
