Despite the bad reviews is this game worth playing?

Post by LarpWarrior »

I'm about to beat suikoden 3 and want to play 4 next but the general consensus is that suikoden 4 is the flop of the series, I've seen so many bad reviews that I'm considering just moving onto 5 but I want to know what the forum members here think. I love suikoden 1, 2 and 3 and suikoden tactics btw. No spoilers please!

If you plan to replay Tactics, you really SHOULD play IV, because in Tactics there's an option to load data from IV for certain reasons.

Anyway, I'd generally suggest playing it to have a personal opinion of it. In my opinion, it has good music and Kika is sexy ;-)

Play it, it's not that long, you can beat it pretty fast and it moves forward pretty fast.

If you enjoyed Tactics that much, you should at least give IV a go.

Let V and its in-series references overload be the grand finale.

It's a chance to see what most of the characters from Tactics got up to during the Island Liberation war, go for it.

Play it...although the main plot won't surprse you much, the mini-games and side-quests can make up for it 8)

lol, that would be funny if that wasn't actually more or less how they marketed Suikoden 4...

I hardly even use the mini games, except the training room and mock battles, which are really things that all the Suikodens should have had.

you can get some hidden items though, that you'll never find anywhere else in the game, like those in mouse hunting.

The game is not that bad. It's bad for Suikoden's standard but it's okay as a general RPG.

It's a very casual RPG as well, so don't expect it to compete with other RPGs that have been raved about. But there are some nice features to find along the way (besides all the mini games) the trade materials and custom armoring are implemented quite nicely.

At least trading is a little better in this game to make up about the lack of main plot

I suggest to play this game despite the reviews. At least you won't be bugged by your unwavering desire and you'll get a taste of the very first attempt at Voice Acting of a Suikoden game (you'll love Chiepoo). Oh, and the changeable party leader is my most-wanted perk of the New Game+ (the ability to change the character you're controlling). There's alot of things I'd come back for this game.

The only thing I didn't liked about the plot is the lack of continuity with the earlier games. IV's pretty much a stand-alone game if not for the recurring characters who have little to no relevance to the story.
