Treasure Hunting WTF?!

Just doing treasure hunting and this one last map get me pissed off. The screenshot tells it all...

that it's not SO bad. notice which way North is. the treasure map is oriented so Up=North. the dark stuff represents the damp sand by the water or something.

I thought the dark stuff is a wall or something that you can't walk in to.
