[Codes] Codebreaker codes to rename hero, ship, army

Post by Jack of All Trades »

I just want to change my hero's name to Lazlo. I could not find any codes to do this. Does anybody here have such a code? I want to play tactics but I really don't want to play this game again to change the name.

have you tried the codebreaker game saves at gamefaqs (http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/save/918886.html) ? they don't say what they named their heroes, but it's either that or look around to request the code. try contacting Pyriel at cmgsccc.com

Thanks KFCrispy, I may try to contact Pyriel and see if he has a code for this. I know for sure he doesn't have one posted on herrvillain though. We'll see. I'd rather not use someone else's save if I can help it. I may have to play the game again and give it another chance. We'll see.

Will you PM me his contact info?

Edit: 12/22/08

Apparently KFCrispy nolonger has Pyriel's contact info so I'm putting out my general distress call again. If anybody has a code to rename the hero or has Pyriel's contact info I'd be eternally grateful for any help renaming the hero "Lazlo" and the Navy "Liberation".

Hero Name Modifier (Must save to see change)
20532888 L4L3L2L1
2053288C L8L7L6L5
20532890 0000LAL9

Technically, the name could contain an additional six characters. Ten is the maximum if you want it to fit properly in the game's displays.

Ship Name Modifier (Must save to see change)
00532899 000000L1
1053289A 0000L3L2
2053289C L7L6L5L4
205328A0 LBLAL9L8
205328A4 LFLELDLC
105328A8 000000LG

Not really sure about this one. The default string is, "The ship of OBEL". I assume they don't limit you to four characters for the ship name, so this code overwrites the whole thing. I think they just did that so it appears as such in the dialog before you customize the name, but it's been a very long time since I played this.

Army Name Modifier (Must save to see change)
105328AA 0000L2L1
205328AC L6L5L4L3
205328B0 LAL9L8L7
005328B4 00000000

This one could go on for a while, I suppose. I set it to the same maximum number as the hero just to be safe, as it's difficult to tell just how long it could be without accidentally overwriting other data.

All characters are ASCII. Google for "ASCII to Hex", if you need a converter. To get the letters positioned properly in the codes, it's probably easiest to just label each letter on its own line on a piece of paper.

1. L - 4C
2. a - 61
3. z - 7A
4. l - 6C
5. o - 6F

Then just insert each hex code into the cheat by it's number, setting any unused letters (L*) to 00.

The Hero is Called "Lazlo"
20532888 6C7A614C
2053288C 0000006F
20532890 00000000

I don't know why you have to save to get the changes to take effect. They did something weird with how the name is handled. It must be cached somewhere odd after you load a save, and it may actually change if you switch screens, or venture into an area where the "Now Loading..." screen comes up. However, considering the point of the codes, I'm not planning to figure out exactly why. If you're not confident that you ordered the letters properly (and you can't get it to display without saving), you might want to create a new save, rather than overwrite one.

Wow I just picked up Suikoden Tactics today. I'm really glad I stopped in here to check things out. I only recently discovered all of the work you did on these games and I just wanted to say thank you.

I just wanted to say that I've tested the codes and they work perfectly and the name transfers over to Suikoden Tactics perfectly. There are spaces in between Lazlo's name but I think that has more to do with Tactics then these codes.
