Female Dominance and Cosplay

Post by Zhang Qi »

For all those sexy female cosplayers dressing up in military, police, doctor, nurse, schoolgirl, cheerleader or other uniforms emphasizing female authority, have you ever fantasized about being a dominatrix? Do you feel empowered by the idea of a woman taking charge and do you like the idea of making a man or woman submit to your control and be your slave? Post your answers in this thread!

On another note, strong themes of gender equality were infused into many stories made in the U.S.A. and Japan. This trend in gender equality had become popular starting with the feminist movement in the 1950's in the U.S.A. and the U.S.S.R. which is why narratives following that time period included more and more women with dominant roles in many aspects of life. Women soldiers for example were rare in pre-1950's fiction and only few examples can be cited such as Joan of Arc and Pha Mulan, however after the 1950's, many female warriors and soldiers became common in real life and fiction with famous personages such as Wonder Woman, Jean Grey, Xena, Red Sonja, Irina Spalko, Rei Ayanami, Asuka Soryu, Misato Katsuragi, Nausicaa, Tashigi and so on and so forth entering books and television.

Being a girl myself, I can't honestly say I've never fantasized about it. However, most of those fantasies end up creeping me out.

Ok, this is a weird topic but since I've been drinking so I'll finally answer it: Yes, being a dominatrix would be awesome. I've never cosplayed, however, so I don't think there's a connection there.

As for strong women in fiction (and real life, of course), I'm all for it. The women of Suikoden that you linked are certainly fine examples, and the women of Alma Kinan come to mind (though I am still confused as to how they reproduce or where the new young women come from since they mentioned that no one has entered their home for many years yet some of the girls are so young...). I suppose if I were to cosplay, it would be someone that I looked like naturally rather than someone that I'd have to make an elaborate costume for (I'm not talented in the womanly arts, so to speak!), so Annalee or Mizuki because of my hairstyle. Mizuki is the stronger and more dominant of the two, I suppose, and her dress isn't exactly conservative, so I guess that would work for you

What do people think of dominatrix fashions? Why is it that I have seen a lot of sexy dominatrix outfits worn by models in fashion, cosplay, and comic conventions but I do not see sexy women wear these fashions as a style on a daily basis? And why is it that I do not see children wearing these costumes for Halloween parties and I only see them worn in adult venues and why do I not see dominatrix hostesses in Halloween parties for children?

I have some examples of the dominatrix models here:

Hm. I recognized Yuki Cross from Vampire Knight, and I do believe that was Sierra somewhere in the middle.
Ora and Sue from Clover, too.

Yes female dominance is quite popular in Anime and even in American programming that is why I like them both: they are liberal in their expression of sexual desires.

Tashigi? From One Piece? I know where Nausicaa comes from (she comes from the Valley of the Wind).
