Of course, Hikusaak could also be gathering all of the True Rune so that someone else can't do it, thus protecting the world.

i don't think that the runes, brightshield and blacksword runes are not thinking or not alive. as evidence, in suik2 hero2 and jowy are talking to both their runes to grant them power in case of need, for example, the scene when, jowy tried to save riou from rowd and some highland soldiers at the highland camp near the boundary of muse and highland, jowy begged for the blacksword rune to give him power to eliminate the enemies.... so, since jowy was talking to the rune, it's very possible that it IS alive, and the rune itself, grant the wish of jowy, so again, it is very possible that, the rune can think of what's it gonna do.

And just being in the presence of several True Runes means nothing, you actually have to be chosen to bear one in order to be granted its powers. So, if a bearer wanted to avoid becoming ageless but wants to have a True Rune's power, that individual could in fact place the True Rune on a weapon or armor, that's of course if the True Rune agrees to be placed onto an inanimate host.
well, viktor did'nt age when he wielded the night rune.

What? Yes he did. The Zodiac sword didn't give its curse to Viktor( the agelessness IS part of the curse BTW) and so he kept aging. And so did Barabarosa

and to add, the Zodiac Sword is an incarnation of the Night Rune. We have not actually seen the true state of the Night Rune.
