Lazlo

Post by Vermillion.Twilight »

Okay this might be common knowlege already but...

The Queen of Obel used the rune of punishment to protect the kingdom from pirates
In the process thier son was lost at sea.
Lazlo was found at sea as a young boy and raised by Snowe's family.
The song from the queens music box is the song from Lazlo's memories.
Lazlo also looks just like the Queen. As Flare kinda favores Lino.
Lino also has a affinity to Lazlo in the game
Even gives him his kings seal. Even without prior knowlege of what I just said
You would come away thinking Lino kinda thought of Lazlo as a son at the end of S4.
And it certainly fits the suikoden theme that Lazlo would get the rune just like his mother did
Only by fate not direct succession.

Lino actually talks to Lazlo about his son at some point durring the game, but cant recall what he says, but something about how he had a son that would be his age and that he was lost at sea. IMO I think Lino maybe thinks that this is his son, but doesnt want to express it.

Perhaps...
I kinda like how Snowe always looked down on Lazlo as a commoner and such
But in reality Lazlo out ranked him as far as noble birth. Being a Prince.

Yeah
But knowing that
It changes the whole perception of the game.

I think the fact that they DIDN'T plunge into the topic is what makes Suikoden great. Most RPGs would be all about the hero finding out he's the great, long-lost son of a powerful bloodline, and the fated hero of the world. Suikoden makes little subtle references, but doesn't bludgeon you over the head with it. It also balances the notions of fate and will, as fate brought together Lazlo with his true family and with the rune, but it was also his strength and willpower that let him become a leader, gather the stars and win the war, and overcome the curse of the rune.

I may have missed this (which is why I started replaying this again) but when exactly did he find out he was the king's son?

Well
Nobody knows if he ever pieced it together or not.

The queen is in his memories but he never really placed it.

Im hoping the rune of punishment was able to show him.

It's hard to tell what exactly Lazlo himself "knows", as he doesn't talk in S4. The games never directly state that Lazlo is an En Kuldes. All of Vermillion's reasons though explain the relationship - the game strongly hints that Lazlo is Lino's son mainly from Lino's talk about his missing son. This talk is near the end of the game, and I don't recall if it's missable, but I don't think it is. The relationship is also pretty much the only thing that would explain Lazlo's protection from the rune when Brandeau uses it on him, and also, you see the soul of a woman which protects him during the final rune of punishment flashback at the end if you have 108 stars, and it's assumed that it's his mother.

Also, talk discussions in Suikoden Tactics show that Lino is very fond of Lazlo and is grooming him to be the next leader of the Island Nations. Whether this is because of their relationship formed in S4, or because he knows (or possibly wants to believe) that Lazlo is his son seems unknown. Even though Lazlo speaks in Tactics, I don't think he has any Rest discussions nor is he featured in the ending, so unfortunately there's not too much extra info there.

So there wasn't a special scene where he's tell him or he'd find out?

Awesome, I guess I was paying attention.

No
Just a few "Feel good" momments
When Lino pretty much tells him he thinks of him as a son
(Not knowing it really is his son)

And at the beginning brandeu shoots him with the Rune Of Punishment but
His mothers spirit shields him (Since she was also a bearer of it and it holds her soul).

Just stuff like that.

Oooooooh! Goodie. I thought I missed it because sometimes I play games and don't pay attention when people are talking (sometimes. ..most of the time) but when I replay them I give it my undivided attention. . sorta. :D :D :D :D

His conversations with Kika seems to hint something along that line as well.

But, yes, they haven't bothered to come out and say it out loud (and probably never will).

Did you notice the play in S5 about S3

It had Flare dueling Brandeau not Lazlo.
