Well, even if the character is supposed to have your thoughts or emotions, I think they should give you a wider range of choices of what to say, so you can develop his character. Like they did with Growlanser 3; he got about four or five choices which were pretty expressive. It was a neat way of doing things, I thought. Plus, the restriction of other answers later due to the things you had said previously was a nice touch.

Also, I loved Suikoden 3, next to two, it is my absolute favorite Suikoden, so I thought they did well with protagonists with personality. At least you felt what he felt. Tir and Riou always had personality to me, somehow, but I HATE the heroes of four and five. With the snazzy graphics, they look like retards, swinging their head around with their mouth half open and their eyes all blank and wide. They look ridiculous. I have seen silent characters who were expressive without looking like a retard; see my avatar for an example.

Anyway, that's my opinion on that...
How did I end up as Pang Tong?!
