Characters based on?

Post by Queens Knight »

What characters in the Suikoden games have been based on real people?
I know Shu was loosely based on the famous Shu strategist Zhuge Liang and Luca Blight was based on Xiang Yu, but are there any other characters that we know of that are based on real historical figures?

Im asking this cause i heard it mentioned that Murayama? (sorry if name is spelled wrong) enjoyed anceint China and Japan literature and if he based any other characters on any other people, or if the people who took over after he left based their characters on real life persons.

Although fictional rather than historical, Maximillian and Sancho are based on Don Quixote and Sancho Panzo, respectively.

Jowy Atreides was also based on Xiang Yu (two major aspects of Xiang's personality were separated into Jowy and Luca).

How is Jowy at ALL similar to Xiang Yu?

Xiang Yu was born a noble, Jowy's mother married a noble
Xiang Yu learned from his uncle, Jowy learned from no one
Xiang Yu arrived in a palace and beheaded everyone, Jowy sat around
Xiang Yu started many different things before becoming a general and failed at all, Jowy seemed to have done well at all he did

I'm going to stop there, but I wonder where you get the notion that Jowy is based off of Xiang Yu at all.

If you'd read my post properly you'd have noticed I said Jowy's personality was based off of Xiang Yu's. I fail to see what his birth, education and success have to do with his personality so three out of your four points are moot. As for this one:

This part of Xiang Yu's persona was attributed to Luca, not Jowy. Again, you have shown you haven't read my post properly.

Suiko4 characters were based on the various personalities you'll meet in life. I don't know if they were based on real or fictional people yet.

Snowe- spoiled brat
Lino - American
Gary and Emma- an old couple
Kika- mature woman
Viki- lost tourist
Karl- one of those guys that always say "bring on the pain!"
Desmond- the butler
Rita- schoolgirl, she's dressed like one also
Harvey- a lady's man
Jeane- a dream
Strategy is the key to victory!

Off the top of my head, Maximillian is based off a literary figure: Cervantes's "Don Quixote."

not likely; that movie came out long after the game was made.

But the comics which the V for Vendetta was based on came out years before the Suikoden 3.

But other than the mask how are they at all similar?

I haven't play SIII in a long, long time, but I can't think of anything that would draw that connection (other than a white mask).
