Nation Formation [Geographical Spoiler]

Post by Vincent of Scarlet Moon »

Just two questions about the nation of Gaien in, of course, Suikoden IV.

1) The early reports called it a Duchy but other reports have it as a Kingdom. Which is the original/official name?

2) On the world map most of the area of Gaien shown is surronded by water. So, is Gaien an island or is the area shown only a portion of the full Gaien land-mass?

Big "pops" to anyone who can help out.

I think the official map had it as a Dukedom.

Gaien is an large island and it's one of the Island Nations.

Duchy is the actual word of "Dukedom", but apparently the game chose the later. :)

Gaien is one of the original Island Nations, and the original owner of Razril. But it doesn't become part of the new Island Nations Federation, so don't confuse the two.

Actually, "Dukedom" is the proper word in some cases. Below is the list of Dukedoms in history.

That's funny. It was wikipedia that resorted to calling the land ruled by dukes as "duchy" and not "dukedom". Though both words do exist in the dictionary.
