Nay-Kobolds

Post by Rune Master Kaiser »

I can see that Kobolds from S2 are dogs that lived in plain lands..
What about Nay-Kobolds being cats?
Why are they on the Island Nations?
Is that where they really came from or just established a settlement on Nay?

I wonder.... :?

The name Nay-Kobold itself refers to Kobold-like people from the island of Nay.

If I'm not mistaken, the Japanese word of "Cat" is Neko. It is speeched as Nay-Ko. In the Japanese version itself, the Nay-Kobolds are called "Nekobold". Maybe Konami made it into Nay-Kobolds to ensure the originality of the "Kobold" word. Probably the word itself meant "Not Human"?

That might have been the intended Japanese pun, but it was officially stated previously that the name was derived from the notion of "Kobold-like people from Nay".

Well since i am German i like to correct you.
A kobold is a little creature, like an irish lebrechaun, that does mischiev the whole day. Sometimes they look like kids or little humans with red hair and colored cloth on. Running around and hide things and so on...
But it that can help in the Nekobolod question... doubt it.

Kobolds are ugly faeries in Germanic folklore, but their appearance has been transformed in recent years into something dog-like. I am not wure which is first, but Gary Gygax made them into dog-like humanoids when he released Dungeons & Dragons. Robert Woodhead, who made Wizardry (one of the earliest computer RPGs), made kobolds into dog-like humanoids as well.

Suikoden seems to brorrow a lot of things from Wizardry, so it's likely the idea came from there.

I've always thought it sounded medieval, like we are nay-kobolds (NOT KOBOLDS!).
