You guys are way off... it's a chocobo.
I would say that the Gul-horse is the most likely answer if and only if the developers really did put thought into the design. I personally think that it is more likely that they did not.
Same thing with the feather. If they put thought into it, then it might be a reference to the griffins near Forest Village. But I don't think they did, thus, it's just some random feather with no real history.
