It is technically a game for the Playstation. Not much gameplay though, since the only thing that you do is read the text off the screen and press buttons to get to the next page. Sometimes they would give you a choice for branching storyline but that's about it. Of course, they have all the nice background images to decorate the endless text.

And, yes, this topic needs moving.

it essentially plays like a japanese dating sim game. These are uncommon outside of japan, the closest i can come to an ntsc example would be the dating game in Thousand arms, or hentai games maybe. although in the case of hentai games, without the porn content.

Suikogaiden Vol 1 and Suikoden II both take place at the same time.

Suikogaiden Vol 2 takes place 3 months after Suikoden II.

And yes, the whole game is in Japanese.

Hence the topic about a fantranslation of the game. Though Suikosource does have a guide if anyone wants to check it out. Just no translation for all the text.

The text is only in Japanese, sorry.

The basic online shopping sites should (but aren't guranteed to) have copies of Suikogaiden Volumes I & II. Amazon, Ebay, Half.com, etc. The Japanese versions of the same sites should yield even more results than their English counterparts.

Both games have being recently re-released under the PS1 book label.
You can find the re-released versions at Play-Asia if you want the originals try the places Jowy mentioned.
