S Rank for True Fire Rune? (Former: "Is it possible?")

I have been wondering if it's possible to have Geddoe or Chris to become the flame champion and bear the true fire rune with an S in Fire magic before chapter 4? I was told years ago that the game doesn't let you but I am still wondering this myself.

You do not choose your Flame Champion until Chapter 4.

Geddoe can reach S in Fire, not Chris.
Wizard Hat and 3x Fire Magic Ring give you a 4 level boost to fire magic, meaning anyone with a natural maximum of B or higher can achieve S rank.

Chris can get up to an A+ in fire magic very briefly I think before she switches back to her normal armor in the middle of chapter 4, as I believe she is allowed to equip a wizard hat then, otherwise she'll max out at A.
