Note about Champion's Rune

i rarely use Champion's Rune so excuse me if it works like this in all games, but I found that equipping it to someone NOT in the party still works! i had it on one of my lvl 99 characters so that when i put him in the party (Kenji, that weirdo) i would be able to stroll anywhere... but then i start heading towards a boss with my party i'm training and there are no random encounters. for me that makes it a lot more useful since it doesn't waste an active member's rune slot

Never heard of that. At least I can confirm it does not work in S1 and 2 this way.
