normally with silent lake affects everyone, monsters and party members, and they would be silenced. A monster or party member that has the magic repel skill could however repel the spell, and not be affected personally, but everyone else would still be affected. When an enemy does that, it can cause silent lake to be more punitive towards you than the enemy.

If someone from your party has high magic repel skills why not?

@KFCrispy: I don't believe you can repel an ally's magic, outside of dodging area attacks since technically, the magic repel skill says it helps against enemies magic attacks, not your ally's magic attacks. Of course, with friends like that, who needs enemies, right? with regards to doing a vengeful child or canopy defense, that would work, but remember that canopy defense takes substantially longer to cast than silent lake, so you'd need to do that a turn before the silent lake casting, which might render it null as there's more opportunities for enemies to cast spells between canopy defense and silent lake, which would negate the spell protection canopy defense gives. Shouldn't have any problems using vengeful child, particularly if you only need to keep one or two characters free to cast spells.

I didn't check it, but may be status protect gear like yellow scaft/earth shield/tai...tunic could nullify silent lake effect as well?
