Duel Guide
Welcome to the Suikoden 1 Dueling Guide. Please be warned beforeheand that the very nature of these battles are spoilers.
Why this guide? I am quite aware that there are other battle guides out there. However, I feel that mine is organized in a much more efficient and readable way. Hence, my guide.
The Standard disclaimer: Yadda, Yadda,Yadda. Plagiarism bad! I spent torturous hours letting my heroes get the stuffing beat out of them to try and get all the lines I put here. Please do not use these without permission. I am still suffering the emotional trauma from making them stand there and take the hits without fighting back!
Tir vs. Kwanda Rosman
Conditions: You have taken the castle, but Kwanda will not yield without a battle with you.
To win: Lower his HP to 0, but do not kill him once the duel ends.
Desperate Attacks: (counter with Defend)
"We're getting nowhere. Here I come!"
"Victory is near. I strike with all my might!"
"Impossible! You can't avoid my blows!"
"Take that!"
Attacks: (counter with Desperate Attack)
"What's the matter? If you don't attack I will!"
"You're better than I thought. But how about this?"
"Well done. But can you take this?"
"At a loss are you? But I'll show now mercy!"
"Ha ha! You'll have to do better than that."
"Heh, now it's my turn."
"Taste the sharpness of my blade."
Defense: (counter with Attack)
"Can you break my invulnerable defences?"
"Carefully..."
"Don't bore me. Show me what you can do."
Pahn vs. General Teo
Conditions: This duel is Pahn vs. General Teo. Here, you are covering your allies while they retreat. If you are defeated during this battle, the game will proceed as normal, but Pahn will be permanantly dead and you will not get all 108 stars.
To win: Lower his HP to 0 and don't die. Be sure that Pahn is around level 30 and his weapon is sharpened to level 12.
Desperate Attacks: (counter with Defend)
"Finish me with a single blow!"
"Impossible! Take that!"
"Hmmm. Here I come again."
"That's...no good."
"My killer blade..."
"The next one will be more painful.
"If you don't attack, I will!"
Attacks: (counter with Desperate Attack)
"All you can do is defend yourself, Pahn? No mercy!"
"My sword's not rusty yet."
"Did you see me coming?"
"Is that all you've got? Now it's my turn!"
"That was a good one, Pahn. Now it's my turn!"
"We're getting nowhere. Here I come!"
Defense: (counter with Attack)
"Good work, Pahn. I'll have to be more careful."
"Strike me, Pahn!"
"Come on, Pahn. See if you can hit me."
"Strike me, Pahn!"
"I'll see that coming next time!"
"What's the matter, Pahn? How about another round?
"I'm losing my cool. Better be careful.
Tir vs. General Teo
Conditions: You have defeated General Teo's army, but you're not done yet. You have to fight him in one-on-one combat. There's no escaping, you have to fight.
To win: Lower his HP to 0. There is no other choice than to kill him.
Desperate Attacks: (counter with Defend)
"My deadly sword..."
"The next one will be more painful."
"My sword is the Emperor's sword. I'll show no mercy!"
Attacks: (counter with Desperate Attack)
"You're soft...soft! This is how you attack!"
"That was nothing. Now it's my turn!"
"Do you see how much better I am?"
"Here I come, my son."
"Is defending yourself all you can do? You'll never win that way."
"We're getting nowhere, here I come!"
Defense: (counter with Attack)
"Is that all you've got?"
"Leader of the Liberation Army! No wonder you're careful."
"Show me what you've learned."
"Come on! Show me what a man you've become!"
